I barely hear any difference in sound between the first three positions. Do you? This is a recent model with Roswell pick-ups, it can be seen from the writing on the covers. Mine has Wilkinson and there is a very clear difference. I would fully recommend it but I'm not so sure about the new one. I wonder how this happens, by the way. The position alone should make an audible difference.

Yes, that reverb doesn't help. But I heard someone say something very similar before:

The link is set to start at the right place, at 5'25". This guys always has a few interesting things to say on the guitars he's working on and it happens in the first 10 minutes. The rest is just him working while talking about what he's doing. Here he tells about how "plastic" nuts are just fine past the manufacturing difficulty of cutting them and says there is no need to replace them if that was well done.

Maybe stating the obvious but strats need that little more care in pickup height adjustment in order to optimize for the mid-position 'quack'. Of course not every player wants to optimize for that - some like to optimize for volume levels, some like to optimize for the treble level (particularly on bridge) etc.

Interesting point. I haven't given thought to this yet. I set my pick-ups to be roughly equivalent in output level, for lack of more particular requirements. Making things equal is the safe way to start things but optimising the positions one uses most or making one more usable are other options.
