Hi everyone, I have been gifted a new but faulty bass to learn on, as an older type person I have time and skills but no experience on repairs. It appears the onboard preamplifier is dead and I am having difficulty finding a replacement. If one is not forthcoming can any of you chaps guide me as to how to find a wiring diagram and what type of preamp may be suitable to replace it. Apologies if this seems a silly post, but I have to start somewhere, and this seems to be the logical place,
Kindest Regards, Patrick

I have no experience with active pre-amplifiers but I would suggest looking for something like this.

I don't know what preamp the MM-84A has in it, but you should be able to swap it easily enough for something like an Artec SE2 that is around 20€ and has the wiring diagram available.
Maybe you could upload some photos of what you have at the moment and we may be able to help.

Yes, replacing a pre-amp should be easy since it would come with its own information but I wonder why a pre-amp should go bad in the first place. Wouldn't that be some integrated circuit made of silicon just like any old electronics that live on for decades?
What is wrong with it? "Dead" sounds like a connection went bad and likely the power supply from the battery failed. Since these wires connecting the battery to the rest are those that are most subject to being pulled or shaken whenever manipulated, this is the first weakness point.
