My main reason is that I travel a lot, but also spend a lot of time in front of a PC, so the smaller size stops me from smacking everything around me with the headstock Also, when you are used to longer scale basses, the shorter scale makes reaching frets and so on much easier, which puts less strain on the fretting hand and also make you feel a lot better player I also had a back operation some years ago, and although I can't complain about my current pain level, the lower weight of the SS is never a bad idea. That's just my reasoning though, many others have their own. In that case, HB needs to come out with a headless Steinberger copy. I've got one made by Cort. It's small, fits in the overhead bin on an airplane (no need to check it in as luggage), sounds good and easy to play.

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

Are they short scale?

While I would love a headless short string bass (that is on my list as the first real mod/build) unfortunately it wouldn't solve my travel issues, otherwise I would have bought one a while ago. The problem is that when I travel, I already have 2 pieces of hand luggage and 2 pieces of checked luggage, so they won't let me take another, nor would I want to, it's allready a PITA travelling with all that stuff.

I like that finger stretching reason (as a guitar player with kitten-like paws not those big ape types that bass players have). Do you notice that eternal Fender vs Gibson argument of less harmonic interest in the shorter scale because of the closer nodes? I think I notice them in the HB MS-60 vs my Squier strat but I may be hearing just different pickups. You used the shorty on our first collab didn't you? That was much darker and flatter than the second one we did but then again a Jazz'll do that. I did use the shorty on that track. Although, you do need to consider that it is strung with LaBella flatwound strings which are very old school, not many harmonics ring out with them.

PB-50. I ordered mine today, B stock for lass than £70. It is my first bass, so didn't want to spend a lot of money & with the reviews it gets, it would have been rude to say no to it.
Brian.

I've just voted PB-20 just cos I got a Deco coming for £21.49. If it's dead and beyond repair I guess I've got a decent bucket of spares. I'm only just been drawn to the dark side so what lies in wait for me with the PB-20? I've not really touched a bass for about 30 years and my last one was a Rickenbacker copy, Hondo I think.

No worries with the PB-20 I would think john It's a P-bass, not a lot to them despite what some marketing men say.

If it's half as good as my shorty (which is just a scaled down version of the PB-20) then I would say you are in for a nice suprise.

Apart from the usual 'D' stamps on the back there was absolutely nothing I could find wrong with my PB-20 deko. I hope you have the same. Its a fine bass for absolute peanuts!!

Thanks for info. I'm a bit giddy now, booked Monday off work on the strength of it turning up. If someone said here's £21 make a bass I'd laugh at them. How do they do it? If it's anything like the ST62 & TE20 finish wise I don't care if it needs work. If it's a bit battered it's modding time. Win win.

These deko prices are hilarious. A whole bass for the price of the strings. There must be something seriously wrong with them, we just seem unable to find what that wrong is My Deko JB-75 is still playing strong but I am expecting some sort of huge calamity to happen any time soon, like the headstock falling off, or the lacker pealing away, or the pickguard melting away or worse.

For the prices stuff goes for I'd be happy to end up with a big box of spare parts.
