Let's talk SG's! Harley Benton has a couple of budget SG-like models in its product line. Does anyone have any experience with those, or have any thoughts/opinions? In the pic below you'll see the Epiphone and HB models side by side, just for comparison: Already at first glance I see some very interesting differences. Do you spot them?

What I like about the Epi: - nicer finish - vintage style tuners
What I like about the HB: - cooler headstock - seems like a stronger neck joint - jack location
What I DON'T like about the Epi: - jack location
What I DON'T like about the HB: - exaggerated left horn - only two controls - neck pickup location (different sound!)

That's the SC-Custom, with Grover tuners. The DC-580 has four controls and old-style tuners. So has the DC-600 and all have 24 frets. None have coil split.

The DC-600 is mahogany too.

I like that the HB are different, but then, it's probably because I don't care much for the original. Not sure how I would feel about a different Strat' shape.
This Epiphone has a bolt on neck with 650R and 700T humbuckers. Someone here praised them in another thread. I believe they are "modern" sounding, which means more high end, not what people call a "vintage" tone, I guess. The pictures show a matt finish and a softer "red". I think I would like that.

Thanx for the input guys. Forgot to say: indeed I want a "vintage" sounding SG, so the Epi pickups would be too hot and bright.

Have the DC Custom with Irongear PUs DIrty torque/TEsla Shark, very happy with. I would say, with good PUs, all these SG copies will sound rougthly the same, saying very good for the price ...

I had borowed a an €pi SG500 for a week : I don't think HB can do worse anyway. Epi's neck is way too flexible, and even playing gently you feel you are altering the tuning. I hate that, and the lack of juice in the soud that goes with this kind of limp instrument
I have never seen any SG from HB, but If I had to choose, no doubt I'd look very carefully before to choose the Epi, and no hesitation at all if that was a higher end SG from HB

Hmmm… That's all true. And they're very prone to nosedive as well...

Maybe I didn't explain correctly. I don't like the feeling of the neck, it is true. But what I don't like even more is that the giutar sounded limpy. Of course you can get a gritty sound with good effects, but it will always lack the feeling of the attéack and response that any aceptable giutar must give
