Hi everyone, Now, HB has released a CST shape kit. I'm interestd in it cos' I like this shape and it has 24 frets which is my own standard. I don't mind about the Hardware HB puts in the box, I assume most of the pieces are not top of the range stuff, so I guess I will have to find my own. My main concern is about painting. Have you already made a total paintjob on any guitar ? How did you do it ? How high is the risk of failure ? Thanks in advance for your help

I never did but I saw enough people telling about botched jobs to say you'll have to practice on random pieces of wood before you do it.

I didn't like the finish on my ST90SA and decided it needed a sunburst. Tried to tobacco burst over the natural finish with nitro from Stewmac. It looked good but when I sprayed the clear the can was spitting and caused some defects so I sanded it down to bare wood and started over. I used amber, tobacco brown, and clear and the guitar looks fantastic. If you need help along the way I will be glad to give tips.

Thank you guys for all your advices and help. Sounds like I could succeed into doing it if I take care and take my time. As long as we live under containment rules, I won't start this project, but hopefully, in May, we should be able de move a little bit more. Sounds like end of spring and summer are the best moments to start some paintjob so, it sounds like a good omen. Thanks for your 6 rules DefJef ! thunderbird : very nice job and beautiful color ! Could you please give the ref of the painting you've used and where to find them ?

I used two cans of colour, two of clear and one sanding sealer, not cheap, but a rewarding experience.

I used aerosol nitro for my second paint job, if you make a mistake you just sand it back a little and spray again, nitro melts into the previous coat and is very forgiving, IMO. This is the finished product: Very beautiful! With binding, some advanced stuff right there!

I couldn't find anything that looked a dedicatedly similar. That business of NOT using yellowing limiters seemed quite unusual. Maybe not. I guess you are talking about the other paints on their website, DefJef. They are probably for those who want a quick aging/relic job, the transparent violet isn't made like that.
