Was not sure where to post this? www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0991854144/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_BjEhTpsmfdoUeBought this book basically for the information on Floyd Rose bridges. Quite impressed with the book on the whole. Good photos even if they are only black and white. Pretty good detailed on all aspects of setup for electric, bass and acoustic guitars. There are printed templates/cut outs for radius gauges and string action gauge. Having these tools I won't be cutting them out. 😁 There is also a section of manufacturers specs for electric, bass and acoustic. Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Ibanez, Jackson etc etc. Which is a handy reference if you set up other people's guitars as guide along with owner/player subjective. If you are new to setting up guitars this book could be handy at around £15.

Sounds a good book, thinking of getting a super strat BW3F?

No superstrat for me MartinB 😉 I got conned into doing a setup for a friend of a friend without knowing it was ESP/Ltd superthingy with a Floyd Rose!! Having never touched a Floyd Rose it was a pain in the a*** having to Google how to set it up, on my phone while doing the set up. What's all that cutting the ball ends off strings malaky? 🥴 So to save being caught out in future I did a bit of research on reference books that covered it. Apparently this book covers it really well, and from what I've seen having now got it. It would have saved me a lot of stress and time. I'll be more confident in future. 😉 Always handy to have a reference book for things you don't do often. 🙄

Aha, it didn't seem like your kind of guitar.
I used to have a bunch of 2ps taped together for my Floyd rose equipped guitar, sold it or Part/ex'd can't remember now for sure, just didn't get on with it, even tried a tremol-no but it seemed to defeat the point of having a FR.

The floyd rose is obviously a decent bit of kit if your into whammys. Not my thing though. 😉 I found it a bit fiddly to set up, everything seems locked with a bolt/screw even the nut! 😜 Do you not have a floyd rose on any of your guitars now MartinB? I'm surprised you didn't get on with it.

blindwilly3fingers the only tremelo I have now is a Jazzmaster style one on my MS-60 VW. I just found that apart from "scooping and dooping" I didn't use the FR that much, when they released a hardtail version of the guitar I had I went for that one. I think I'm not really into whammys anymore.

I have enough trouble just playing guitar without adding the extra problem of tugging on a whammy MartinB. 😜 On my strats the bridges are decked and the wiggle sticks are safely in the depths of the back of a cupboard. 😁 I can see it can be a good effect and some people do it very well. Just not for me, how's the Danelectro going by the way?

Absolutely loving the Danelectro, it's been my mainly played guitar since I got it, my ESP/LTD has been in its case ever since!
It could just be that it's louder acoustically than the LTD and with the Music shed currently being done via video chat it's better for that, I haven't actually plugged into either of my amps for a while, the Laney is just too loud for where I live and I'm playing tabs off my PC monitor. If I'm plugging into anything it's my Focusrite box.

I'm interested in that Focusrite box MartinB. I have problems with my Lexicon one and a Behringer. Both seem to introduce a very high pitched whistle/whine/buzz, don't know what you'd call it. SOMETIMES it's a bit better if I unplug the PC from power but sometimes it's just there. I wondered if it was USB 'chatter' but cannot really track it down. I end up having to otch filter recordings at just that freuency to diminish it a lt but that has other negative effects to the recording. Do you get ANYTHING like that with your Focusrite MartinB or is it dead silent? I just ordered some magnetic bead suppressor things that are said to work if you clip them on to your usb cable but I'm hugely doubtful.

I get it too, it's noticeably worse on single coils than humbuckers.
*edit* I just plugged it in to check, no interference at the moment, a little reading suggests that it's my lights that cause the interference but there can be multiple causes of it.

I get it on mics when doing vocals too though. Can they pick it up? I'm usually a good distance from the laptop and I usually move the box to as far away as possible too on a longish usb cable. Maybe that's the problem? Longer cables = longer antennae? And of course everything is going back to the PC at some point. It's infuriating. I wish I could find a guaranteed solution. I'll report back on those suspicious 'noise suppressors' in a new thread when they arrive.
I wonder if some usb cables are designed to negate the problem?

From what I've read anything in your houses power network can cause the problem, it's the main selling point of those power conditioners and the whole "Dirty power" debate.

Although I can understand the dirty power argument generally, I'm glad to say it's not the problem here...unless my laptop battery is delivering that dirty power. The last recording I did through a mic was onto an unplugged laptop in my garden. I'm wondering if drivers can do it. It's so annoying.

Hmm, I'm out of my depth here tbh. Outside with just the unplugged laptop and a mic and you still got the feedback/hum noise? Can't think of a source of the interference at all. I think modern flatscreens don't give the interference the old Cathode ray tubes did.
