So it could be the inner workings of the laptop, he seemed to be saying that he still got the noise when recording?

Have you tried it out with the laptop grounded? Just curious.

Something conductive touching a jack or a usb socket running to a ground should work. Again, I'm out of my depth here!

blindwilly3fingers the only tremelo I have now is a Jazzmaster style one on my MS-60 VW. I just found that apart from "scooping and dooping" I didn't use the FR that much, when they released a hardtail version of the guitar I had I went for that one. Interresting. Three HSS Pacificas with vibrato bridges here, but I confess to their lack of use on my part being due to insufficient skill or recognition for the need yet in the type of Classic Rock I play. One day perhaps? George, and John certainly didn't seem to use trem to affect their sound, nor did Dave Davies, Paul Kossoff or Jimmy Page. I leave them in place nevertheless. I'll recognise when I need to go there, should I live that long! Most of my current electric kit is hardtail. Revstar, SC Custom(mod.), Classic TC, ETL-100(mod.), 311H(mod.) Pacifica.

Thanks for that DefJef. My 612VII has a Wilkinson bridge and heavier block than the Yamaha OEMs in the 112s. Working in conjunction with the Grover locking tuners, Graph Tech string trees and TUSQ nut, the Wilkinson is stable without locking down. That said, I'm not exactly up to subjecting it to Divebombs quite yet! : ] One 112V (I have two) is locked down so it's effectively a hardtail, the other is stably floated. They're a decent enough vibrato bridge for the money, but I don't think tuning stability would hold up to heavy handed trem use. A moderate budget spend would address that though if required. Korean quality Wilkinson bridge & Wilkinson locking tuners from AliExpress, cheapie PRC roller string trees and Graph Tech TUSQ nut (there's a drop in pre-cut replacement available for current model Pacifica nuts). And if one really wanted to lash out ; ] TUSQ trees too, but Graph Tech components are BS expensive imported into AU and cheapie CN rollers do an equitable job IME for a fraction of the cost.

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

I'm interested in that Focusrite box MartinB . I have problems with my Lexicon one and a Behringer. Both seem to introduce a very high pitched whistle/whine/buzz, don't know what you'd call it. SOMETIMES it's a bit better if I unplug the PC from power but sometimes it's just there. I wondered if it was USB 'chatter' but cannot really track it down. I end up having to otch filter recordings at just that freuency to diminish it a lt but that has other negative effects to the recording. Do you get ANYTHING like that with your Focusrite MartinB or is it dead silent? I just ordered some magnetic bead suppressor things that are said to work if you clip them on to your usb cable but I'm hugely doubtful. iirc it's electronic interference from your monitor. I get it too, it's noticeably worse on single coils than humbuckers.
*edit* I just plugged it in to check, no interference at the moment, a little reading suggests that it's my lights that cause the interference but there can be multiple causes of it.
These ferrite bead noise suppressor things arrived. I've made a thread about them here.
