Well I weakened again and ordered a Mosky D250X it's a clone of the DOD 250 preamp/overdrive thingy. Doubt it'll be here before Xmas. Will add info when it arrives. 🙄

Cool! If it sounds as good as the other Mosky dirt pedals you'll like it.

Had a day or so with the D250X and so far I'm impressed. Must also say 2 weeks from China for under £20 is outstanding. 😜
The name is a giveaway its based/cloned from A DOD 250. But has has a switch that puts it into another circuit mode, which is the MXR +Distortion.
I love the DOD mode sound it has quite a lot of headroom the MXR mode is more fuzzy/fizzy and distorts quicker. Surprisingly both modes have a good range, I would say the DOD mode cleans up better. I believe the MXR pedal is based around an SD1? 🤔 Amendment should say DS1 not SD1.
As I don't have any of the original pedals to compare it to I can't say how close it is? Apparently there are two sets/modes of clipping diodes in the mosky. I can't say if it's two pedals in one? I will say it's very versatile, it is great value for money. 😊
I know previously I said I was done tone chasing with the klon klones being my favoured set up. But this pedal was a very pleasant surprise while it can get distortion tones it is much more than that.
Gain control knob Level control knob D/M toggle switch On/off footswitch Orange paint job sort of light metallic (nice 👌).
Looking forward to giving this pedal a good workout over crimbo. 😉
Great little pedal if you want something different to a tube screamer or klon type OD.

I can't remember the episode but there is a JHS YT where he covers the DOD250 and the MXR Distortion +, I don't want to say what they are because I have probably misremembered! If you're enjoying them that's all that matters really isn't it?
Hope it brings you many hours of enjoyable play!

I've seen the jhs vid you mention MartinB they are both opamp hard clipping circuits. In my previous post I made a type error referring to an SD1 when it should have been DS1. I've also seen a vid where the guy says he has checked the circuit of the mosky and it has the correct opamp etc. I'm not that nerdy to check such things, as I said I do not have the originals to compare the mosky with. I'm not usually a lover of distortion type pedals but I like this pedal. It gives different tonal options to my Klones, blues breaker, screamer based clones.

It's good to have tonal choices. Glad it's a keeper. Once you get used to having a pedal there seems to be a tendency to find more and more uses for it. I recently seem to have kept my underwhelming fuzz pedal permanently on my board because I found ways to use it.

I've steered clear of distortion pedals due to my extreme dislike of the one I purchased @defjef. Due to messing around stacking drives with my klone I discovered that the hated distortion pedal had in fact some rather good useable tones. 🤔
This lead to me researching a few distortion pedals, I do try to make a half educated guess when buying pedals. Even though yt vids can be misleading, I say that not attacking those that provide/make the vids. Without the vids it would be even more of a stab in the dark. 🙄
It's hard guessing what will work with your set up, not knowing how the vids are recorded etc. 🤔
I have to say mosky where a brand I was dubious of, I've ended up liking every pedal I've got of theirs.
Anyway I'll stop waffling and get to the point. While I'd like to get some original pedals so far I can't fault any cheap Chinese pedals I've bought. They do seem a great way to find different options. The Mosky D250X is a good little pedal I've so far only used it on its own straight into the clean channel. I look forward to messing around with it coupled with other effects and drives. They pedals its based on have been around since the late 70s I believe so it's not the modern high gain distortion. Now I must give myself a good talking to, no more pedals! 😕

Having dipped my foot into the world of Biyang, Mooer and Behringer it's become really hard to A) Resist buying cheap effects B) Bother buying expensive effects.
Sure there are some really cool expensive things, but I think I'll get plenty of joy from the cheap jobbies and suspect I will sell my OC-3 and possibly my Soul Bender. Really unsure on the Soul Bender though.

I'm still on the lookout for a pedal with shimmer verb plus some other flexibility. They're all so pricey though. NEARLY got a Behringer Reverb Machine for £55 but got pipped on Ebay. Everything else seems to go for more. Fancied a used MXR M300 but that eventually went for over £140.

Tbh MartinB the original pedals are probably better in terms of build quality and possibly superior in sound. I can see the point if your a gigging musician but for home or jamming etc, the clones are perfectly fine even Josh from JHS says so. 😁 I have to say I've not had a bad cheap pedal, a few I've not been keen on at first. That if I'm honest is probably down to me not using them correctly. There are enough yt vids reviewing the cheap pedals that are mostly positive. I've got over 20 pedals now and there are still some I'm lusting after! 😘

The heavily featured type reverb pedals do seem to be expensive. No doubt somebody will clone them soon @defjef.
