Hi everyone! New member here. I just received the DC Junior Yellow. Last night, at band rehearsal, I noticed the Roswell pickup seemed a bit thin. Has anyone done a pickup swap on there's? Or even a magnet swap on the Roswell P90?

Hi! Before any swapping, I would try to raise the pickup, that'll fatten the sound up for sure. You will need to shim though, but there's plenty of information on that all over the web. Try it!
(Quote I found in another HBC thread.)

hi, the first message from me here! I was googling this same topic, about swapping pickup to my DC Junior. It has been said basically everywhere that the sound is not what you expect from DC Junior (that's one reason behind why they made DC Junior FAT). It is thin, it sounds like telecaster, but you don't want play a telecaster when you get DC Junior into your hands. I'm probably going to swap Roswell, maybe to this Seymour Duncan www.thomann.de/gb/seymour_duncan_santp90de_b_blk.htm. But I'm not sure how big a difference it will make, so if anyone has any experiences from this topic, please share.

as coldwar1977 posted,
i have a standard DC junior and can attest that raising the pickup makes a big difference.
raising the pole piece not so much, raising pole pieces is rather to adjust the small difference in volume between strings.
the field is made by the magnet(s), so you have to raise the whole pick up to get the strings closer into the field.
also the FAD DC has a stacked humbucker made to look like a P90, this is not comparable to a classic P90
it's the apples and pears story

So it needs shimming. Just some kind of shims between the dog's "ears" and the body, right? And how much you recommend it should be raised?

Or even a magnet swap on the Roswell P90? Just tested raising a pickup about 1,5 mm and it makes a huge difference. Thanks coldwar1977 and tarn for the tip! After raising the pickup, there's more much more bite and crunch in the sound now. Next thing to do is to replace the cocktail sticks by a shim plate.

You will enjoy the instrument much more from now on.

Or even a magnet swap on the Roswell P90? Mojotone.com and Angela.com have the shims. I have a DC Jr and a DC60. The stock pickup works great once you shim it up. www.mojotone.com/P90-Dogear-Spacer-Set

hi - just received my faded cherry sc-junior. while holding the string down on the dustiest fret, i think between 2 and 3/32” is considered a good place for pup-string distance, and mine measured 10/32”. Shim time, after swapping in a solid lightening bar wrap-around bridge first; arriving tomorrow. HB puts in the neck version of this pup (P90D-N-BLK), rated at 7.1k. i’ve seen measurements of it from 6.6k to 7.2k in youtube vids. The bridge version’s rated 3k higher… shoppartsland.com/p90d-n-blk/cheers
