Hey all,
just got myself a JB-75 and I'm super impressed. Beats my fender, sigh. Anycase, I'm intending on keeping the bass but I'm weirded about the controls. Is it normal that the tone knob also affects volume? If I turn it to min volume disappears completely. I really want to keep this particular bass. I've heard stories about QC on Harley Benton instruments and otherwise this checks all my boxes.
I really hope I don't have to send it back, because I want "this" particular bass. Has anyone sent their instruments for repairs back to Thomann? How long did it take? Or do they just send you a "new" instrument?
Cheers!

That sounds quite strange to me - it should be VVT (Vol-Vol-Tone) so the first two knobs should control the volume of the pickups.
You might want to open the electronics cavity and upload a picture here. Then we can see better what happened.
Maybe they screwed up the placement of the pots - so maybe it is now VTV or something!?

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

Does that tone control act as a tone control until you get to min and then a sudden cutoff? Do the volume controls act as volume controls? The way a signal slowly disappears from a properly functioning volume pot is that it is slowly being dumped to ground. It sounds as though your tone pot may be doing this at the end of its travel. As DerAlex says, posting a clear shot of the wiring and possibly some multimeter testing should be able to sort this.

This should not happen but it is an easy and cheap fix, no need to return if you otherwise love the bass.

Got my bass Monday 9 April 2023 and I had the same problem as the OP. It was an easy fix though! After unscrewing the pickguard I saw that the capacitor on the tone pot was off and it was touching ground. That causes a short circuit which makes the tone pot act as a volume knob. All I had to do was to bend the capacitor a little so it stayed clear from ground, and the problem was fixed.
After sanding the fret edges which were sticking out, the bass works fantastic now. It only weighs 3,8 kg, which is probably due to the use of poplar in the body nowadays. Sure, it is a softer wood than alder, but I'll take that any day instead of carrying excess weight. Not bad for any 5-stringer.
Cheers!
