Great job, the Green pick guard on black looks fantastic. The green pearloid pickguard was a bit of a wild guess but it worked out amazingly well.

blablas, all I can say is; I wish you were my neighbor, I would be often dropping by with a 6-pack of cold beer and bring you my guitars for some DIY modding As I said a few pages ago, I think I would become left handed if I lived anywhere near Blablas!

Replaced the black pickup ring with one of the others I prepared earlier, think I like this combination more than the black one. The Green pearloid one is not working and looks really out of place when it is mounted there.

I feel obliged to say that I don't like that new color combination but if you are happy with it then go for it I think the black looked very good and this tortoise looks ... well ... just wrong, visually. But as I already mentioned I will not be playing this bass so if you like it thats what counts

Now that Im looking again at the old design maybe a chrome plate would do much better if you cant live with the black plastic one?

When I started making the ones I've made out of pickguard plate I was planning on making one in polished stainless steel as well, even started on making one (metal working is part of my daytime job, so no problem there), but decided it would look too much over the top and too much Rick wannabe and ditched this idea. It's not that I don't like the way the black ring looks (there was a reason I picked out his one first), it's more the idea of having the standard boring black & white with chrome color variation that's mostly available when buying a left handed bass. If I make something myself I don't want to go that direction and will always try something that's a bit more colorful. Maybe the black one will return again, maybe I'll try a stainless steel one anyway, but for now I like the tort one.

Made an overview of the four variations I've got right now. Hard to make a choice, each has it's own charm! When I'm looking at this overview the green one is not as bad as I first thought. (doh) Difficult

I will be honest again The green and the tortoise (for me) look like a plaster on a cut finger they visually dont belong and are telling their own story not fitting in the over all picture. The black and the chrome look best by far, very well balanced except that the metal in this picture above is a bit too shiny, much lighter in color and for that reason leads the eyes to focus on it too much. If that metal plate was the same color as the rest of the chrome hardware this one would be my perfect choice.

Also to add, I would likely get 3 chrome pot screws also instead of the black, hard to imagine without a picture but might look great with the all-chrome theme

I will be honest again The green and the tortoise (for me) look like a plaster on a cut finger Thanks for your honesty, but that's sort of the effect I'm looking for. The black and the chrome look best by far The chrome one is actually mint green. (leftover piece from the pickguard plate I used for the first two Shorty rebuilds) Also to add, I would likely get 3 chrome pot screws also instead of the black, hard to imagine without a picture but might look great with the all-chrome theme Tried that, prefer the black ones on this pearloid green.

Made up my mind after taking a long and thorough look at the overview - The black one, this one has the least disturbing visual impact.

Is there a route between the two pickups or just a hole?
If it is just a hole, how about 2 pickguards, one green and one tortoise?
(if I get chance to play with photo-chop later I will try to visually explain what I mean).

A big P route swimming pool, the standard P pickup was roughly in between these two.
