Disclaimer: I am a P90 junkie - so I guess my choice is obvious. :-D To be honest, I love the raunchiness of P90s and the P90s that were in the SC450-P90 were quite nice. As many here in the forum know I prefer 50s wiring which can give you especially with P90s the ability to have them cleanish with the volume on 7-8 and becoming more distorted while turning the volume up to 9-10. I think everyone who plays blues/rock stuff needs to have at least on P90 guitar in his arsenal.

Well, I always find it difficult to decide which to buy, and my answer is always ... BOTH ! And that gets "problematic", when one is talking about the "high priced spreads", where guitars can cost $1,000- $2,000 or more ... But Harley Benton does make it easy. When considering that BOTH guitars , will probably cost less than one Squier CV, or a PRS SE (less for sure) Buy both of the HB's , as they will surely sound different (P90 /Humbucker) and perform differently in different environments. If "high gain" is where you live... Humbuckers will probably sound better in that they will be way less noisy (Harley Benton, unlike Fender is cool enough to provide RWRP pickups, so the middle pickup positions do provide some noise cancellation) Where my $800 Fender Player Mustang 90 does not ! And when you decide to play music (less crazy high distortion /high gain) the P90's will do stuff the humbuckers wish they could ! Buy Both (order cases when you do to save on shipping)

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

Just one thing to consider: The guitars have major difference - wood - Body: Mahogany vs Poplar, Fingerboard: Laurel vs Blackwood, Top: Maple vs Basswood, Neck: Okume vs Maple. Check the images of the backs of the guitars...

I just got an SC 450 P90 GT two days ago and I love it. I had the same question before I ordered mine and I decided to get the Gold Top with P90s and then later this year I'm going to get a Burst top with the humbuckers. That way I can have both of my favorite LPs in both styles.

P90 is bad 😁
Best of two worlds is P90 neck + HB bridge
A good P90 in neck position is just a wonder of grunt and dynamics Whereas in bridge the HB is better most of the time.
But if you can find the good HB to pair with your P90 you'll feel like you found the graal in Middle position
TIP >>> check Duesenberg pups 😉

High gain and sustain always come together young padawan. But high gain is not what you need to play what you say As I said above à mix HB+P90 is THE answer to play in the style of the groups you said, you can trust me Just be ready for à surprise as you can't play these pups like Fender's single coils. HB are à lot more powerfull and straight whereas P90 are so dynamic that you'll feel like they are bombs. You have to always control how you touch thé strings to get the response you expect, but thé counterpart is great in terms of varying the guitar voice with just à pick or fingers
