Hello all
Newbie here !
Just received a B stock HB GS Travel Mahagony and wanted to ask a few questions so I can decide whether to keep it or send it back ?
The Good - for the money it’s amazing, looks great, is very playable, sounds pretty damn good and seems to stay in tune.
The Bad - sharp fret ends on most frets and there is a buzz on the B string particularly on the 3rd fret which of course you use rather a lot ! The strings are weird - pretty harsh on your pinkies and feel strange, almost like they are coated which I don’t believe they are ?
So is this normal and as good as I can realistically expect from such a cheap guitar ? Is it worth returning for a replacement or would it be just as bad ?
many thanks
Justin

As far as the buzz and the harsh feeling of the strings, put on a set of your own preferred strings. There might be a slight bend or ding in that string near the fret that is causing the buzzing and who knows how long those strings have been oxidizing for. As far as the fret ends, if you're otherwise happy with the neck and how it plays, I'd personally pull out my StewMac fret end dressing file and clean them up, but I'm also a psycho.

I’d keep it too. If it weren’t B Stock I’d have asked for a discount, but you got that already. Personally I’d have a go at dressing the frets, maybe some levelling too, shelling out for the tools will be a bit, but no more than a visit to a local luthier.
