Hello all...this is my first post on the forum. I recently received my lefty Fusion T and, after doing a proper setup and removing a couple of minor burrs in the nut slots, it is a superb bargain. It's a dream neck in my opinion. I do find the split coil tones (and big level drop) to be lacking. And I'm not expecting humbuckers to BE single coils - the Roswells aren't dark by any stretch, but I'd prefer something less mid-rangy. So I am curious who has chosen to swap out the Roswells, and for what brand and why. I appreciate any input, thanks!

I don't have a fusion-t so I'm not sure what Roswell pickups they come with. I bought a Roswell LVS-B for my Epi LP Studio, it's not a 4 wire, only signal and braid. At least that stopped me from messing around with coil splitting or series/parallel switching. When I've done this in the past I've not been impressed with the results, the split and parallel are too low output with typical 8K (or thereabout) Humbuckers. I have a Washburn Hawk from 1983, which has Washburn Power Sustain pickups, I think they're essentially MMK-45s which have a high output high wind (11.5k) and do split rather well. They also have a 5mm thick ceramic magnet, which makes them very punchy. They were too much as humbuckers for my taste.
Have you thought about trying some mini-humbuckers. They tend to have a clearer output, a good half way house between full bucker and a single coil.
Or maybe Filtertron style pickups. Similar in some ways to the mini-buckers.

Well, As I type this, I am waiting my 2d Fusion T HH HT as it is such a killer guitar platform ! (Fender would charge $400 for the neck alone)
There are so many durn aftermarket humbucker pickups out there and I don't think any of them are really bad ...
But I'm going to go with Seymour Duncan, 59 Neck /59 Custom / Hybrid set for this 2d Fusion T.
Why ? To simply give it a different voice, as I have no real problem with the stock pickups. I have been looking for a platform to put this set of SD's in, so I thought
I go to one of my PRS SE's first. The CU 24 with the bright, jangly 85/15S pickups. I prefer the more midrange focused tones in humbuckers... So once I do the Fusion T
with SD's , I'm thinking I will put the Roswells into the PRS SE CU 24... and have a much "darker" set of pickups in there...

... There are so many durn aftermarket humbucker pickups out there and I don't think any of them are really bad ... Well, so many people make the same kind of decision for the same bad reason.
You're reason they are not really bad
But you're wrong, they are as good, for less money.
You go for another HB, but you keep on not being confident in what these alternative brands can do. Even knowing that you still have the right to return for 15 days when ordered online .... just mind this
*I own several sets of Tonerider pups, of different types, and for sure I won't bother myself with reknown and more expensive brands, because they compare, and they do it well

Yeah ... I'm sure there are several lesser known brands, that sound as good .... for less $$$ ( kinda like Harley Benton guitars ) But because a pickup may cost more, due to branding and reputation ... Does not make it "Bad" . I'll will tell you PRS guitars are good guitars, but mainly overpriced... That does not make them "bad" guitars . I just don't want to waste a bunch of time, listening to all the "Toneriders" out there, because I have other interests ... I'm buying the SD's (overpriced though they may be ... IN YOUR OPINION) ... because they present the tonal differences I am looking for ... and they are available at a discount from my Guitar fleshpeddeler

You say ..."but you keep on not being confident in what these alternative brands can do". The problem is I don't really care ... The SD's will work just fine. BTW ... I do not buy any product for trial, or testing with the idea of returning it.
All that does is drive up the dealer/ manufacturers cost of doing business... Which is ultimately passed on to us ... So how much money have you saved in the long run ?

Well I can say that I saved some money, but I couldn't say how many €€€€€, and that is not the point anyway. I haven't returned any of the pup sets I ordered... whereas I returned several HB guitars. On another hand, and although I do not own any SD/Gibson/DM/etc pups, I own several high end sets of not that renown brands but very close to boutique quality ( Van Zandt ) and obviously above ... and I'm also satisfied with these "tiny pups" that bring the improvement I want on my HB guitars. Notice also that wich was the brand of the guitars and pup set I'm using, I always do a big work of setting up on my axes, and that can change the feeling of quality as much as a simlple swaping of the pups. This is so much important that I just never rate any guitar as long I have not set it up, with or without new pups. I also know a luthier not far, who has magical hands, I know I'm good at deeply setting guitars up, but he is way above me when it comes to this job... just to say how much this can change a guitar, .... and that there is a lot more room for improvement that you can imagine... mostly for free if you do it yourself
In the end, I choose this way mainly to support the competition, because the more good players on the market, the better for us end users
