I am using exclusively D'addario strings on my guitars, not because I chose so but because they came with the guitars and many out there are giving them good reviews. But I find they dont last very long.
So I am looking at some cheaper strings like the Martin strings for el-guitar on Thomann which are getting some good reviews. Also dont last long but are almost half the price of D'addario strings.
Alternative would be the Elixir Coated and I mean the expensive PROPER coated strings not the nano-coated. According to some players they can last for YEARS and sound fresh. I mean they do cost a bit but long term they are the cheaper solution.
What strings do you use and why?
Just to add; on my classical guitar I use Savarez both carbon and nylon strings and am happy with them especially the carbon ones.

Hey Che, I used Elixir strings for a while and although they do last a lot longer the coating keeps them from sounding very bright and fresh even when they are brand new. In my opinion they sound new like regular 80/20's sound about half way through their life but the elixirs keep that sound a long time. I think I prefer the coated DR strings. They are a bit cheaper and brighter sounding. I still use the black beauties some but I think they've been replaced by dragon skins. As regular strings go, I used D'addario on electrics years ago but I kept breaking them and switched to Ernie Ball, mainly because of all the ads in magazines. Later a band I was in had an endorsement deal with a string maker and I used them for years but have since gone back to mostly Ernie Ball Slinkys on electrics and Martin for acoustics. Claptons Choice for short scales, Monels on some dreads and silk and steel on others. Rotosounds on my cheap little beatle bass.

It seem that Ernie Ball is as popular in US as D'addario is popular in EU. I cant say Im breaking the D'addario strings, my playing is relatively gentle. They just die out and I can tell they are dead because the G and B strings are so tough to tune and sound like an empty tin jar thrown down the stairs, especially the G string. Will check those DR strings, thanks

+1 on the Elixir strings, though I don't like how they feel. They last longer but when they fade... they really fade.
D'addario are great.

They had endorsement deals with almost all the guitarists I wanted to be when I was 19 years old. And of course it's you "G" String. They are so much more acceptable in Europe than the US

Doesn't D'addario make strings for all the big names anyway including Elixir? I tried Gibson Masterbilt (they are cheap on Amazon) on a J200 copy from Terada and it sounds amazing.

I think I might stay with D'addario a while just try the one with wounded g string and maybe 11 or 12 gauge. Will check the price of Gibson Masterbilt at Music Store might be even cheaper (free ship for me)

I play wound G strings on shorter scale electrics and all acoustics. I prefer to look at unwound g strings like this one:

Calm down Che, I have a feeling they'd be VERY uncomfortable for you to wear while digging up potatoes....ouch!
