I am browsing for low output single coils and most I find is Hi-output pickups, even when called "Vintage" Whats all this hype with hi-output pups? I mean most of the names like Hendrix, SRV etc ... played on low output pups and used the amp and pedals to kick up the sound when needed but they could go back into the low output and get all the fine dynamics. I am puzzled ... do you know of any vintage sounding low output pups, single coil (but do mention humbuckers and P90 too if any worth mentioning). Hi output pups dont resonate well with me hence me looking to find some low output ones. I love the sound of my L-450Plus Wilkinson pups which Im sure must be vintage PAF made or close to it, the neck pup sounds so creamy and buttery especially when fuzzy tone is used. Love it.

Really ? low output pups are not that hard to find and and nor they are expensive. You may check GFS who has a large choice of vintage style pups with different windings. Their vintage style products are usually a very good deal And and a friend of mine just replaced the pups of his L550 Paradise with Tonerider pups : AC4 in bridge and AC2 neck. Couldn't try it yet, but he's very happy with them, and even the luthier who intallled them said these pups where really good. I play a set of Van Zandt true Vintage on a Strat Jimmy Vaughan Signature, that are exactly the kind of low output pups that Jimi Hendrix liked to use. And even the Rock set, that I also have. Though more powerfull it can't be qualified "high output" and gives all the musicality and harmonics we expect from a vintage tone. Possibly you haven't find yet the kind of pup you are looking for. I have read elsewhere that you play more on solid state and modelisation amps. If I'm right, let me tell you that this kind of amp are much harder to find good sounding for these typical tones.

isn't Texas Sound pup an overwound, hence, hot output sounding pup? I would like the ones not overwound, not made hotter. Maybe these but would want to go even lower www.tonerider.com/pure-vintage

I might buy these actually. Thanks for the tip

Thanks for the tip Sry I answered too quickly These Pure Vintage are not overwound too: Just check the DCR values, they are quite moderate compared to what you can read on Fender Strat data sheets

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

Ice been looking at d'urbano pick ups on you tube and on eBay. He's based in Australia and his stuff seems half the price of any UK dealers in the shops.

Careful with those ironstones. I bought platinums for my PAC112 a few years ago. I think Tony put them in to match the humbucker but they are all 7k windings and they really honk. And they really overpower my Fender amp.
Thinks.... maybe I should just lower them. Hmmmm
If I was buying again I would be tempted to try the silvers...
