I have a mustang II too. It's a nice amp but it is a modelling one. You never seem to get a clean tone out of it. Reason i bought a normal transistor amp too. When i like to play around with pedals i use the mustang with a pc. It's nice to be able to work with boxes in the preamp and a rack between preamp and master amp. Just like you have a combi of head and cabinet. Pity, as i already mentioned, that the pedalboard for it is NA anymore. It would make it possible to handle the amp with no pc. Something i learned using the amp. Want clean tone ? Select amp and turn all effect knobs completely to full and back to zero. The effect for the amp type will be gone. Thanks Lm2 for your thoughts.Frankly I've had enough of this amp... 12 inch speaker is it's only asset as far as I can see... I've ordered a cheap Subzero V35RG Subzero V35RGNot sure if it will be any good, but I'll sell the Mustang and buy some pedals from Thomann to go with it ... ; So the Subzero came and was sent back... dreadful, hum, woolly, not good. Back to the drawing board for me . going to have to save up for a Bugera V55 perhaps .....

I'm about to try a friend's Fender Frontman 212R (Twin speakers - nice) and am hoping a great deal from it. Sadly they don't make THAT any more, no, they've replaced it with the modelling Champion. Damn them! I hope the Bugera is as good as the best reviews and nothing like the worst reviews I've read of them. I so want one and I so want it to be good.

I don't think I'll ever try a Sub-Zero amp after seeing this. Obviously the person behind the website earns money by modifying these amps, so he might have a reason to trash talk them, but he states he won't mod them again because of their safety issues. In any case some of the pictures are worrisome.

I nearly bought a US made mid 90s Peavey Bandit 112 (one of the best regarded versions) this week for less than €100 but I convinced myself I don't need another solid state amp....even one with a tasty clean channel and nice speaker like that.
One way to combat gas....stop looking at ad sites.

I was just contemplating a Peavey Envoy right now. Seems that we're all fans of that Peavey transtube technology.

I need to stop looking at ad sites. There's a Blackstar ID Core 10 for sale near here for about €70. Tell me I don't need another practise amp.

Yup..at the moment I'm pretty much in the modeler/sansamp camp. That little Blackstar is basically two little computer speakers attached to some digital modeling electronics. So it won't give me anything I can't get from plugging my Zoom G1x multi-effects into an old (but very decent) pair of Harmon Kardon 3 inch computer speakers. ....Apart from of course the very nice form-factor and nice knob based tweakability and handy usb interface...hmmm

Some of the tweakability requires you to hook up to your computer anyway - no tone controls without doing so, for god's sake. Recording via the usb is none too nice either. I use the line out instead. Plus it hisses like cornered rattlesnake.

Thanks @defjef. I'll keep my money in my pocket then. ..actually I think I'll spend it on a couple of pedals instead. Vintage OD, Digital Delay perhaps or a decent but cheap reverb pedal.

Vintage OD IS nice. I love it as a combined pedal in front of the American Sound and it means you dont have to use the AS for your overdrive. I keep mine on the cusp of overdrive for most playing and kick in the Vintage for more overdrive. I have an 80s Arion digital delay that serves me very well too. With up to 4 seconds of delay I've never needed more. Let us know if you get a reverb and what you think of it. I don't really want to replace the daed reverb pan in my big old Peavey keyboard amp. A good reverb pedal would be sweet.

There's a decent (I think) spring reverb in my big old Laney keyboard amp but that's upstairs and I need a sitting room solution! And as good as the Zoom is, an all-analog signal chain seems better for feel and dynamics. (Of course maybe a modern reverb pedal is digital too so where does that leave me...?)
