Some models a very sought after in France :
- L450+ and L550 Paradise : Les Paul copies with the same shape as the original. Both guitars are great souding and are excellent platforms for upgrades - L450 GT P90 gold top : same as above, the ancient model with Gibson shape is sought after - Previous DC that had the same shape as the SG, for the same reason as above - Some more uncommon designsthat were discontinued, like the Danelectro copies ....
These are really liable to be sold with gain if mint

Im happy I sold my L-450Plus Honeyburst as it was heavy as hell (and had a very fat neck)! Now Im very happy with the SC-550FT (Roswell LAF) as its as light as a feather only 3,5kg , and it sounds MUCH better than the L-450 I had with the Wilkinson pups.

I bought second hand:
HB TE 70 Gibson R0 Fender 63 tele custom shop
I Can tell you the seller of the HB lost the smallest percentage compared to the original price.
With cars, dacia, the cheapest brand, holds value better than porsche, which is considered the best value-holding brand.
Imho, depreciation is absolutely no issue with HBs.
Greetings!

Lower price products tend to hold value better than others when sold, provided they can be sold in the first place. Don't try it with one of those Vision Strats you can buy on ebay for 57€ (shipping included). I have seen lots of Squier Bullets (~125€ new), a "trusted" brand, sell in the 70% range while the Squier Affinity (~200€ new) sells around 50%. The trick here is that people seem to settle for a common maximum price around 100€, a psychological limit for a cheap guitar regardless of the model. It matters little to sellers because the least they paid, the smaller the loss they can make. Sales prices with buyer's relation to new (including shipping): 102€ (53%) FENDER "Squier" (Schwarz-Weiß) + Tragetasche Affinity 209€ new 102€ (79%) Squier by Fender Stratocaster Bullet 99€ (77%) Fender Squier Bullet Stratocaster Hard Tail RW Arctic White 99€ (77%) Squier Bullet Strat by Fender Stratocaster in coolem Pink und gutem SC-Sound 98€ (49%) SQUIER STRAT BY FENDER Affinity 96€ (48%) Fender Squier Strat 20th Anniversary Modell dunkelgrün kaum gespielt Affinity 199€ new 93€ (79%) Fender Squier Bullet Stratocaster HSS - Brown Sunburst E-Gitarre *wie neu* 129€ new 93€ (47%) FENDER Squier Affinity Strat BK E-Gitarre Gitarre electric guitar *B-WARE* 91€ (48%) Fender Squier Affinity Strat 87€ (74%) Fender SQUIER Bullet Strat HSS BSB / E-Gitarre / Stratocaster / Humbucker

I can see the possibility of people seeking the older models at an increased price, closer to the shape of the originals they copied, as a basis for modification or out of simple fondness for idiosyncrasies associated with the object of myth. After all, some do like a heavy guitar, a thick neck or particularly sounding pick-ups. While versatility of sound can be key to a first or regularly used guitar, a stronger "personality" usually makes the attraction of the addition to a collection. However, I really like the way Harley Bentons appear to improve with time, some of them now coming with a year in the model designation to make it clear. It also implies that you might not quite know what you'll get when buying a used one.

Jack and Danny is JUST a housebrand! HB is A BRAND now (I never thought I was to become a brand snob ) I'm afraid I lied The ebay search shows 21 Jack & Danny items sold in auctions in the last 3 months, at prices between 23,50€ (+ shipping - a Sunburst Strat with amplifier and gigbag, used "only a few hours") and 160€ (a Les Paul copy with a Seymour Duncan Invader pickup worth 93€ new - the pick-up, not the guitar). Many of the prices are around 50 to 60€ + shipping, confirming the difference in perceived value. As to the relation to brands, this is more about becoming brand trusting than a snob in this case. A snob says that an Ibanez can never make him look as good as a Fender. Someone who stays away from a Strat' copy by Never Heard Of Guitars is just mitigating risk. Lessons: a) don't sell a modified guitar. Put it back to original state and sell the valuable parts separately. b) don't sell a guitar together with a gigbag, a case or an amplifier. This is like giving the additional items away. It doesn't add to the selling price. Especially the amplifier is most likely something potential buyers don't want. c) you can sell an almost no name guitar on ebay but, well… 23,50€ was a bit harsh

LeoThunder I like your thinking and your analysis - you clearly know something about (the dark arts of) price setting and market positioning. I'm a lefty so our market works at a different point of the supply/demand curve. (Good luck flogging a cheap 'no name' lefty strat copy! For many years the only budget lefties were the ubiquitous strat copies.)

I suppose the offer for lefthand guitars is lower than the overflowing righthand market, which should make the items more valuable. The market ought to be far less liquid, however, so auctions on a time limit are no viable option. You'd need to offer at a fixed price and wait long enough. I have sold CDs at ridiculous prices on Amazon Market Place this way, mostly to Swiss buyers.
If Lefthand Strat copies sell new, they will also sell used.

There's a guy not too far from me who has advertised a lefty Affinity Strat for €80 for a least 5 months now - he has the patience to play the long game. When I bought an amp from a fellow last year, upon learning I was a lefty he tried to interest in me in his son's BC-Rich left handed metal monstrosity (one of those models with about 15 corners on the body) - if I recall he was selling it at 30% of new trying to get a sale. No thanks.

Interesting stats there! But unfortunately, at least here in Spain they do not sell easily,it took me few months, and a price drop to sell the ST-62.. As we say in Finland " The price is right, when the seller & the buyer agree". luckily y got it second hand, so lost only 15€.
I still have a DC-CUSTOM & CST-24, these are keepers!

Seeing the prices for Squier Affinity Strats makes me squirm a bit. I've got one up for sale for a bit more than the ones Leo Thunder has listed (Black with tort). I've had a few enquiries and a number are watching but it's been up for a good four weeks now. I'm not in a great hurry to sell it. It's just that I've agreed to a one in/one out thing with the Mrs and I've seen an SG I'd like. It makes sense, as room is running out. Six guitars and a bass are quite enough....for now. So maybe it's the long game for me. I've got a few added items (Gig bag, extra vintage tuners and new bone nut). Maybe I'll heed the above advice and take them out of the equation. Maybe even take the ad down and re-do it with some even better photos. Yep.

Would leaving it up in the attic (if you have one) keep your missus happy? Out of sight, out of mind etc.

The one in one out rule applies in my home also. Have a rack that holds 7 so I'm always casting a suspicious eye over the ones I don't play often every time I get GAS. The usual suspects are my bass, banjo and acoustic. I've always been a bit nervous about storing guitars in the attic due to temprature fluctuations.

I usually sell for around two thirds of what I paid new but will go lower if it's up for too long. I sold a £250 Boss BR600 for £70 and kind of regretted it but that was the average average 2nd hand selling prices at the time. The guy who bought it got a bargain . Rarely use EBay now due to charges and sell on Gumtree.
