Remember though, that some speakers only sound good when turned off Also, another tip to remember is that it is too easy to over boost bass, making it distort. Sometimes cutting the mids and highs is better than boosting the bass, and the effect is the same.

to get good results you could tray to make your mixes sound similar to professionally mix song in your headphones. I personally never mix using headphones as they are mostly made to boost low end This does make sense. I do get lots of nice low end on the AKG but when listening through the iPhone phones it sounds thin. I have no speakers but if that is the case as you say then using such headphones will result in a tune with less low end when others listen to it. Will keep this in mind next time

Ok, I have been listening to all my tracks via iPhone headphones and I now see why you say there is no low end in the sound. Everything sounds thin and sharp. But it does sound round warm and fat via my AKG headphones. Ok so must use my crap phones to make it sound good on most devices.

Try and make it sound best through both if possible.

Ok here we go! Another try at recording and this time I hope I made the low end a bit better and yet kept the spark in the high strings when pulling them. This is my first attempt at Slapping the Bass so be gentle (still using the Digitech RP70 guitar multi FX) What do you bass lads say, is the low end good enough or not, thanks! blablas JAC https%3A//soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/slap-that-bass

The problem with slapping is that there has been such a saturation of "wanna-be slappers" that not much inspires me in the way of slapping. There are some people that I think are amazing, each with there own style, but I find it difficult to be constructive towards slapping (I can't slap a note at all, well maybe a root and octave if I really tried ) Don't take this as anything personal, just think that if you had to comment on something that you didn't like before it started, it usually comes out negative! However, one positive note is that you tried to keep it simple, which is (in my opinion) a good thing. With regards to the tone, try boosting lows and highs, and dropping some mids, see if that works for you.

I get your point no worries. I did boost the Lows and I boosted the Low Mids but left the High mids and Highs in the middle. Oh man this EQ is gonna be the end of me

To properly EQ slapping is a lot more difficult than finger or pick style. Personally I feel you should cut the highs a little bit more. I'm not much of a slapper either so not much serious advise from me on this one.

Ok, here is another take on the dreaded low end EQ This time the mids are in the middle, low end boosted and the high end is ... (you guess) What say you? Sounds more like a Bass now?? https%3A//soundcloud.com/papa-dusko/slap-bass-eq-low-end

blablas Im more after the tips on EQ, how it sounds to you. As you mentioned I do come from a guitar, tonal mid range, and bass is much more about the low end which I want to find. This last take named "Slap bass EQ low end" is where I took the highs ALL THE WAY DOWN, left the mids in the middle and boosted low end just bellow the booming point. Sounds better? By the way, I remember listening to M- Miller saying that mids are very important for his kind of slapping, where he boosts the low mids I think.

I think it's still a little bit too snappy, there is no bark yet. Maybe cut the mids a bit more and turn in a bit more lows? (as before, no expert just going by feeling ) What do you think of this sound yourself btw? Maybe that's more important than my or someone else's opinion, it's your own music! Don't be afraid to doodle around with the tone knobs, use extreme settings to get a feel what the effect is to the sound, once you've got that start tweaking these settings to something you really want.

Well, this last take sounds a bit fatter to my ears, more bass-like, but my problem is my ears which got used to the mid range in guitar playing and somehow I go for that sound even though now I can hear clearly that all my takes sound very thin for a bass. Thanks to you pointing that out by the way. Its important to get a second opinion from someone who knows the stuff and then work from there. Now I at least now what to look for.
Ok, I must be close because the highs are totally down, so its now to lower the mids more.
Oh, by the way, I am playing with the bridge pickup 100% and the neck pickup 50-60% and the tone all the way up.

Your pickup settings are roughly the same as I use on my passive Jazz. Maybe a tiny bit less bridge, but I've installed a balance and volume knob instead of the two volume knobs.
