Hollah !! The Extreme 84 is in stock. I wanna hit Buy Now right now. ha ha But I have to wait until I get back from vacation at the end of February. I can't risk any shipping delays, and then find my guitar sitting on my porch for a week. Lots of porch thieves, and I honestly don't trust my neighbors either. Such is life living in NYC. Does anyone own this guitar? Any thoughts? I've always loved the way the Explorers looked but never connected with the Epiphone Explorers. I've had several, including the Korina and Goth. Both, especially the Goth, were too light for my liking. I'm hoping the mahogony Extreme 84 will lend some weight. I'm very curious as to how the active pups will sound. I love HB's.

Like you, I love the Explorer body shape but I prefer the original headstock shape of Gibson/Epiphones. Somehow the rounded reverse headstock of the Extreme 84 looks wrong to me. I think the original Extreme 76 was more like the Gibson/Epiphones but changed. I wonder whether this was for copyright reasons or whether the current design is simply more popular and I'm just out of step! I totally agree with you. I prefer the hockey stick style Explorer headstock. But the Epi's I've owned never felt right. They were way too light for me. So this will be my last foray into Explorers. If this doesn't work out, I'm done with them. ha ha. But I think this will be good. Mahogany body, active pups ... what's not to love ?

I'll weigh mine tomorrow...it's pretty light (surprisingly so). Nice, though. Can't say much more about it as I still have to fix the tailstop (it's a deko... the holes were drilled too big, so it wobbles). From the test I did before taking it apart, pickups are certainly powerful.

What's your obsession with weight eddie? Most people complain about heavy guitars, I can't say it really bothers me either way.

What's your obsession with weight eddie ? Most people complain about heavy guitars, I can't say it really bothers me either way. My first guitar was a Gibson Les Paul Custom. So I learned on a heavy guitar. It feels right to me. I sold the GLP when I was 18. It was the biggest mistake of my life. I've never been able to afford another one. I've tried to replace it with Epiphones ... I've had several Epi LPC's, Epi Prophecy, etc. But they were never the same. The Epi LPC's were far too light for what I was accustomed to. Granted, they were great guitars ... but they didn't feel right. I've owned several Epi Explorers ... Goth and Korina. Neither stuck. Too light. I tried out an Epi V because I always wanted a Flying V (ala Scorpions), but again, too light and I hated the head droop. I'm stocked up on Squier Strats lately ... but I only look for one particular model, serial number NC4 through NC7. Full thickness body, pool cavity, wide neck ... and mostly importantly, a heavy Strat. I can't do basswood or pawlonia. Too light for me. Doesn't feel right. I think weight is one of the reasons I really like my new CST-24. It's heavy. It feels right to me. It's not really a guitar issue ... it's more of a me issue.

What do YOU mean by NOT obsessing about weight I too obsess as I dont like guitars wrecking my shoulder. I prefer playing standing as I find that gives me a more potent feel (sonically speakeing). Heavy guitars are big no for me. Thats why I LOVE Basswood and my guitars are around 3.4 - 3.6kg and thats just perfect for me. The main reson me staying away from the TE-30 and TE-52, folks complaining them being heavy especially the TE-30! Note their body materials!

I can see your point @chedapapa and now why eddie likes a heavy one.

It's sort of why I've steered away from SG's and hollow bodies. Great guitars, but too light. 6-7 lbs is a nice weight for a Strat. But when it comes to a LP, I want a 10 lb. rock on my shoulders. ha ha. Then again, I haven't played out or gigged since I was 20. So I'm just a mancave rockstar. So, can anyone weigh their SC-450 Plus for me? Muchas gracias.

I don't mind a weighty guitar...until I have to bend down to tweak a pedal knob half way through a two hour rehearsal. My lower back goes into spasms!! Plays his heavy guitar then bends down to adjust the volume of his Drive pedal and ... stays down for the rest of the show , ... actually I should not laugh about such things , sorry ... ...
