Just ordered my new TE-80 NT .... Really looking forward to seeing it - tracker says it's well on its way so should see it Tuesday (ish) There are a load of people on here with far more experience then I, so may I ask a few questions please. I have a pair of Wilkinson 60's Vintage Voice Pickups Chrome MWVTN N&B that I'd had bought in the hope of building a Tele-type, but finances and faith in myself has stopped me. Does the team think it would be worthwhile changing the Wilkinson Pickups already installed for these? Also I have a wiring harness with 250 pots to this spec: Treble bleed kit: 150k Treble bleed kit Capacitor: 0.022 Red Baron 250v Wire: Poly wire Switch type: 5 way import switch Pot Size: Bourns Mini AUDIO Pots Should I change the existing one for this? Then I have a set of Wilkinson Wilkinson WJ-05 E-Z-LOK Machine Heads which I would also like your thoughts on ........ I should say that I am VERY new to the guitar world but am enjoying the experience immensely. I also own a Squier Strat VM Surf in Surf Green and a Epiphone WildKat which never stays in tune ..... I wasn't ever going to buy more than one guitar .... but then I guess everyone on here knows that could never remain the status Quo .... Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated ..... Cheers David

I would like to welcome you to our growing HB Club sure we all have at least a couple of guitars usually more, because its easy to get several with the HB prices and quality I am not much of a mod guy but sure some here are so lets hope they chime in with their expertise. I love the Wilkinson stock pups on all of my HB guitars. I might change the neck pup on my L-450Plus at some stage to a P90 alnico but no rush for now because its sounds awesome when playing with a vintage Fuzz effect.

Welcome! I've just got myself an Epiphone Wildkat Royale! I must say mine stays in tune well despite the many many reviews I've read saying otherwise. It tunes out when using the bigsby but I guess that's normal, I won't be using that much anyway it's more for show it's a beauty of a guitar isn't it?! *totally offtopic but really these kitties are worth it if you own one*

I was skeptical when I ordered my Te-80 thinking it wouldn't be up to the quality I'm used to for a gigging guitar but it's seen 5-6 hours of stage use and is holding up fine. I am perfectly happy with the tone I get from the stock wilkinsons. I haven't changed anything on the guitar except a re-string. The tone and output of the electronics sounds to me to be on par with the mexican fender standards and the classic vibe series squiers. When swapping between a mexican made tele and the TE-80 I don't have to adjust anything on the amp. The TE-80, just like the Hohner it replicates, is a little more strat sounding than tele sounding in that it doesn't have as much "ice pick" sound on the bridge pickup. I have modded my mij and older american teles over the years and they do sound different but there is more money in some of the pickups, switches, caps, etc. on some of them than the TE-80 costs for the whole guitar so that is comparing apples to oranges. The TE-80 is a great looking, good sounding, good playing guitar and a great value for what it is. The neck is even to my liking. I did have to clean up some sharp fret ends but it has enough bulk to it to feel pretty good. If this guitar has one negative, it's the weight. I think they hid a les paul somewhere in the body It's right there in my pic with the other three teles. Those are my four performing telecasters and it fits in just fine with some of those other guitars costing 4-5 times as much.

With one on my way myself I'm quite happy with what I'm hearing from you gents. Thanks! Throw it up on youtube when you get it Nick. I've had three Prince fans ask me about it since I've been playing mine out and didn't really have time to give them details in a loud bar between sets. I think if more people in the states have info on these they would buy them. If my back could just handle wearing it for more than ten minutes!! Tich, let us know what you think.

I'm more interested in the TE52 that looks more roots, but chance made that I could get a second-hand Telecaster from my favourite French brand. However, I have a friend who already owns a L550 Paradise but no Telecaster. And he's also a big fan of the Stones ..... EDIT : he just sent me a message saying he wants a TE80

This one was actually a whole other level of surprise. Heavy, gorgeous top. Probably best of any Benton I have. Pickups not sure as I was only on my work Yamaha THR10C and not through a cab played in anger. I hope to get some recording in this weekend. I'm way behind! HB JA-60, Bigtone, ST-70, ST-20, CST24HB and the TE-80 all need some video action! And most before they more on to their final owners. Here's a preview shot of the TE-80:

I'd probably change out the pick guard and make it a blackboard but she's perdy!!

I think Nick is struggling to breathe under the enormous weight of Western civilization's largest Benton Mountain Very curious how you think the TE-80 compares to the TE-70. I love the maple board and that lush top, but would only pick one up if it brings something different to the party sonically speaking.
