That's great, dodger ! They're coming out with walnut back & sides versions of this guitar and our CLD-41SE! I know marit and that upgraded Hummingbird that I suspect will be more like a Gibson J45 or Southern Jumbo I can't deal with this - I already want one of each of the models! I love HB guitars! The features (of the acoustics) are the best bang for buck anywhere. Bone nut and saddles, solid tops and Fishman pickups for the price they're selling them - I think only Sigma can compete - how is yours buy the way? Have you bonded as much as you did with the CLD41SE?

Hmm you could well be right about that Gibson J-45 / SJ! Yeah, they're real good. Apparently walnut is completely different from rosewood. Me and DefJef will be right on it comparing those soundclips. The Sigma's real nice! They're hardly a competition though, apart from the DME line (you also have the DM12E, some 00 model etc), they're easily twice as expensive and I'm 99% sure they are build side by side in the same factory. I got the DME because it had no cutaway and electronics for a reasonable price, still the CLD-16SCE costs 80 euros less, has Fishman pickups onboard, only downside to that is it has a cutaway.

Happy NGD, Dodger! I am the owner of CLA 28VE and it´s my best HB in my collection. I got 5 of them. easyrider I remember you mentioned a while ago that it was your favourite. I'm swapping between this guitar and the 41se for gigs. Think the 28 is more suitable for solo stuff while the 41 is better for the 2 piece. The 28 is great for sofa playing and intricate stuff while the 41 is more of an all rounder for strumming and lead. Think I love both equally - can't wait to hear hiw the 28 sounds after playing for a year or more. Both sound great through a PA

You are damn right, Dodger! I´m useing 28 for delta blues an other fingerpicking stuff and 41 more playing with a pick. 28 sound is super for recording, 41 is my favourite practiceing gutar although it has minor intonation problems and neck shape aint my taste actually. One thing I discovered that they(Thomann) started to sell two versions of 41s - walnut and RW. I suspect that they did it while ago already, but just didn´t tell anybody. My luthier said that inside layer of the backside of my 41 is walnut. Maybe, but I bought it 2 years ago... maybe thats why I´m not so happy with my 41? Inside of my CLF 200 is almost black as fingerboard - no doubt it´s a high end rosewood! Interesting, what Marit have to say about it..

Walnut and rosewood are 2 very different woods, and the walnut version has only just become available on Thomanns website. The rosewood versions should be made of rosewood, and that's how they sold them so far. The walnut version will become available the 11th, they are probably coming out with this model due to the CITES situation, these have no rosewood and can be shipped to the US also.

I´m sorry Marit, I ment inside layer the third layer of the plywood, the layer which is inside the guitar, under the interior label.

The figuring on the inside layer of my 41 looks the same as the outside to me - don't know how they did that. Mine has no intonation problems and the sound has really opened up. I love it - can definitely hold its own against lower end Martins and Taylors that cost much more. It has that same rich sound that an all solid wood acoustic has.

My CLF-200 as well, however my 41 has much fairish inside layer than outside and the sound is bit of numb. Do you really want to tell us that your guitar has change the colour? Where do store it? On direct sunlight?

It may be to do with the satin finish,as I have the clj 503 which is gloss top,is older than the cld41 yet retains its original lighter colour.

I'll take a photo of my 41 and 28 together - the 28 is the colour my 41 used to be but they are really different. As Kwis said the satin finish allows the wood to darken more quickly - I love how mine is changing and how the 28 follows suit!
