What Harley Benton is for "Thomann"....Is Jack & Danny for the "Music Store". Jack & Danny is germans "Music Store" house brand. It follows the same rules as HB. Good guitars for low prices. In a direct comparison you can tell the guitars cost a little more than the HBs. But they got interesting color choices and the overall quality seems to be HB standard. Some guitars comes with a case, something Thomann didnt so anymore (am i wrong?) 30 days money back.....3 year warranty...! So....does someone got a Jack & Danny? What do you think of them? Will you watch my review if i buy one?! Im very interested in some models. for example this one... check the shape of the headstock!!! or this one:

Damn Che
You've just had me wading through 10 pages on J&D basses, now I've got to stop myself from ordering the Surf Green. 95% of the posts were about the full size jazz and of those 95% were positive. Good necks, good finish, good tones. Even set up got a thumbs up. Poorly cut nuts and lousy tuners were common complaints and a few hated the bridge.
No-one said they were " cheap and nasty " only they were inexpensive and good basses. There was one fella had the baby bass but he'd only bought it take on holiday.
General consensus is BUY ONE.

I have a J&D jazz bass, which I have liked, and hated over the time I have it. It is a long time since I played it for any length of time, in fact, I think the last time I played more than one note was when I upgraded the pickups. Here is the review I did of the bass nearly 3 years ago (on TalkBass). I believe I did an updated one comparing it to an HB, but I will have to search for it. From TalkBass:Hi Guys (and gals!!)
I am now based in Germany for the near future, and I wanted to get a bass just to practice on while I am here.
My main basses are Squiers, and as I just want it to practice with, I wanted to spend less than on my VM's. Also I will need to either post this home, or fly with it at the end of the project, so the cheaper the better!!
My main aim with the bass was to get the neck as similar to the Squier Jazz necks as possible, so that when I am home I don't need to adapt.
I checked out the used market, but couldn't find anything, so my first thought was an Affinity, but those retail around 200 euros here, so I might as well spend a bit more and get another VM.
I then thought about another Harley Benton (my first bass was an HB), the jazz bass is around 90 euros, but the thing that I most hated about my first bass was the neck, so I was not convinced.
Then I came across the Jack and Danny Jazz bass at musicstore.de for 109 €. I had no idea what these basses were like, and after searching, the general opinion was "decent for the price".
The deciding factor was that they had the Jazz bass in White, something that I have been GASsing for during the last year or so, and the cheapest I could find was the Squier CV in OW, which was slightly more than I wanted to pay for the "colour"!
Anyway, getting to the end of this (oversized) post. I got the J&D JB yesterday, and after unpacking and tuning, here are my first impressions.
The feel of the neck is pretty much identical to my VM's. It is very smooth, no sharp or unlevel frets, and the action (at first impression) seems to be pretty decent).
The finish of the bass is ok. There are no faults on the paint or anything, however there is a slight misalignment between the controls cover and the pick guard (I think you can see this in the photos).
I cannot say what this sounds like as I don't have an amp here yet (I will bring a small combo back with me in October) but the playability "unplugged" seems to be ok. To give a proper impression of this I will need to change the strings to some that I like (not keen on steel) and plug it in, but I will say that the 5th fret of the E string seems to sound a little duller than the rest, but more on that later.
So, all in all, I don't think that Jack & Danny are the greatest unknown treasure out there, but for 109 euros this bass is pretty sweet, especially the neck.
As there is not a lot of info out there, at least that I could find, if anyone has specific questions about the bass, feel free to ask and I will help if I can.
Here´s the bass:

And here are a few more recent posts about the bass (also from Talkbass):I also have a Jack & Danny Jazz bass, and at first I thought it of similar quality (or even higher) than the Harley Benton, but after a while, I found this was not the case.
I can't tell from the photo you posted, but the nut on my J&D is a very bad plastic, not plastic like HB, but a nearly transparent cheap plastic.
I also found that the knobs were not soldered properly.
The tuners are very stiff, and not accurate.
The pickups were very weak, and thin sounding, and both were the same size (to small for replacement DiMarzio´s without some DIY routing).
However, the neck and and body were ok
I hope your students bass doesn't need all this work, but I would definately take a look at the points I mentioned. And one more, comparing HB, Squier and J&D:Thanks for sharing that bartoshek.
I have played around with some changes myself, and while I agree that most of your changes improve the instrument, I don't think that all of them are necessary unless you are looking for a specific setup, and then they may also be needed on other brands to get the same results.
Just to give you an example of changes I have made to 3 different basses by 3 different manufacturers. These are the HB P Shorty, the Jack & Danny Jazz bass and the Squier Jag VM (passive version).
Setup: HB P Shorty - Was playable, but in need of a setup to be comfortable. J&D Jazz - Not nice to play, needed a setup. Squier Jag - Was very close to being "nice" stright out of the box, but needed setup to be to my liking.
Strings: HB P Shorty - Horrible strings, needed changing straight away (currently Labella Flats, 40€) J&D Jazz - Horrible strings, needed changing straight away (currently D'Addario Rounds, 30€) Squier Jag - Strings were ok, but I changed them anyway (currently GHS Precision Flats, 30€)
Pickups: HB P Shorty - Not too bad, replaced with a DiMarzio, changed back to stock and sounds ok (will upgrade with a Duncan SBP-1, 50€) J&D Jazz - Horrible pickups, replaced with DiMarzio Ultrajazz (50€ used) Squier Jag -Stock P pickup really good, J pickup pretty bland (replaced with DiMarzio PJ's, 90€)
Electronics: HB P Shorty - Work fine, no issues. J&D Jazz - Resoldered to get rid of some intermittent faults. Squier Jag -Work fine, no issues.
Bridge: HB P Shorty - Works fine, no issues (I will replace when I refin) J&D Jazz - Works ok, but would rather replace (not sure with what, but let's say 20€) Squier Jag -Works fine, no issues.
Tuners: HB P Shorty - Work ok, a little harsh, but wouldn´t bother replacing (until I refin) J&D Jazz - Terrible. Hard to move and very difficult to be accurate, need changing (will upgrade 50€) Squier Jag -Great tuners, smooth and precise.
Nut: HB P Shorty - Plastic, but works fine (may upgrade when I refin) J&D Jazz - Terrible, cheap (nearly transparent) plastic, needs upgrading (5€) Squier Jag -Also plastic, but higher quality than the others, not planning on changing.
Pickguard: HB P Shorty - Cheap 1ply plastic (will upgrade when I refin, 15€) J&D Jazz - Cheap 1 ply plastic, cut wrong (upgraded with Fender MIM PG, 10€) Squier Jag -Nice tort pickguard (if you like tort )
Finish: HB P Shorty - No blemishes that I have found (I will refin, but only to change colour, 20 €) J&D Jazz - Small blemish on back of neck, pickup routes were not good (not an easy fix, so I won't) Squier Jag -No blemishes or por workmanship that I have found.
So, to recap on pricing: Shorty P - 66€ + 105€ = 171 € J&D Jazz - 120€ + 165€ = 285 € Squier Jag - 300€ + 120 € = 420€
As you can see, the Harley Benton is the bass I spent least ammount of money on to get it to my liking. Obviously, most of these mods were personal preference, except in the case of the J&D, which basically needed a transplant of everything except neck and body (and even the body is not great!). You can see that as time passed, I favour the HB much more than the J&D.

This is my J & D Vintage Strat-Style Guitar in Action I was looking at these over at music store! How was the guitar out of the box? Any issues with frets or else? Which vintage model is this one? I was thinking to get the J&D vintage strat because its free shipping to Denmark ( I save 8 euros that I would pay at Thomann means extra strings for me). If you think that is a good strat I will get one instead of the HB st-62 but I would keep those Wilkinson alnico pups. Did you make any other changes on this guitar like bridge, tuners, etc ...
