You think Sharon didn't misunderstand him then LeoThunder? In that case it would have helped if they's turned the reverb off so that we could hear how much the Macmull guitar didn't need it and the others did. Yes it is odd how one guy sensed compression whilst the other sensed more dynamics. Maybe it is a matter of semantics. Maybe neither of these guys is speaking in their first language and even if they were we can always pick the wrong word now and then. If that's the case I wonder who was picking the wrong word and which one they meant? Maybe they were both picking the wrong word, there's no exclusivity to wrongness in this instance. I know I kind of sense a kind of compressed sound from my tele. Maybe that's down to the sustain that Che talked about elsewhere so I'm keeping a pretty level volume on a note before I choose another one? That could also explain the singing tone Henning tries to emulate. The notes on a Macmull perhaps sustain that bit better and the only way to get a similar length of note is to use compression, overdrive and or reverb. Or maybe it is just down to individuals' ears. Sharon ears sense more dynamics whilst Henning's ears compress the sound. In the end what matters most is what we ourselves hear and enjoy. Personally I pretty much enjoyed Sharon's clean and reverbed sound on everything...through YouTube and my appalling in ear office phones.

The Thomann rankings go down when a product is out of stock, which implies it is a calculation over a recent time span, not over the product life. The English translation does not reflect the original, which does not mention total sales. I find the presence of a 850€ Gibson Les Paul and a HB SC-1000 Progressive (with high output, "metal" pick-ups) in the first two positions quite puzzling, Yes. It perplexes me also. Perhaps they are basing the ranking on total revenue? So the expensive Gibson would be weighted significantly more than the cheaper models. I notice that google translates the German text as "The rank stands for the daily updated sales taking into account the stock availability." Perhaps it is a complicated metric based on sales (units or revenue) per day for each day the product is in stock..... but I've no idea why they would measure it like that.

I doubt it as it would change every day (we can check back tomorrow).
For sure though it's only sales in 2018 - possibly in the last month/perhaps week as the Gibson 2018 models are top of the table.

I heard Henning say that some HB DC-something "compressed" the sound in one of his videos before. I wondered how it could be and am willing to believe he doesn't understand the term, as strange as this seems. Sustain is not compression even though compression increases sustain. I don't see how passive pick-ups could compress anything.
What can happen is that a higher output signal brings a valve amplifier to compress it before it starts to distort in an obviously audible way. Turn your volume down and you get better dynamics. These guitars were all played at full everything and it seemed to me the Fenders were a little louder than the Macmulls. So Sharon was right when he heard better dynamics but the cause of that could have been the amplifier compressing the louder input from the Fenders more than the other. We can only speculate on this because I expect the sound recording for the video to have been severely compressed itself to accommodate for both the talking and the sound of the amps.

We can't tell what Sharon meant with dynamics because all we got to hear was a compressed recording of what he played I didn't hear a less defined attack when he played the Fenders or even the Harley Bentons so I must assume he meant to convey the proper meaning of the term which is only about the volume range of the instrument. I wonder if my ST-62 has gained value.

Honestly I know nothing about djent....but educate me - point me to a song where guitar is djenty but lyrics and singing style are not 'cookie monster'/roaring/screaming or otherwise OTT.

I believe this is how Neanderthals went extinct This is where modern science fails! Neanderthals reincarnated into humans! They downgraded considerably!

I haven’t watched the video being discussed, and I’m unlikely to view it. Based on what you’re all saying it’s like the usual 1/2 hour or so “demo” where somebody talks a lot of bollocks and doesn’t demonstrate the equipment very well.

I wonder if my ST-62 has gained value. Nope we couldn't hear that because they insisted on super reverbing all the guitars. What a waste of time. And Henning is such a tit. I used to share a house with someone that he reminds me of although they had considerably more hair. There were so many times when, in company, people would look around embarrassed by his behaviour.
