You could try messaging one? Maybe yours has a wiring fault or something.

It could be a wiring fault for sure. But Im aslo sure I dont have the nerves to receive another one from Thomann just to discover it has the same noise on Tone knob This amp has to sound really Kller for me to do it but so far I dont think it is capturing my interest not is it sparking inspiration. I will of course play it some more but I can't have an amp that sounds crap with my effects. My Reverb sounds hollow with it, almost like an empty bucket! And yet it sounds lush into my Bugera! Same with Delay. Same with Tremolo. Even with OD is not really shining. Maybe 6V6 just aint for me, or maybe 10" just not me. If this one doesnt do it for me I just might order the Bugera V22 as it has EL84 instead of the 6L6 in the Bugera V55. Or I could maybe strech to the EGNATER Tweaker and see if that one gives any nice tones but to be honest I think my amps need to be clean and drives etc need to come from my pedals. All this is a learning journey really. BTW, Im uploading the recording of CUB 10 right now ... (the tone knob hiss ... not really a hiss ... you will hear it )

BTW, I always use groudned wall socket for my amps as without it I always experience some amount of noise. My Bugera is almost noiseless and even when cranked it only has a nice hum to it. Also totally new guitar cables so all is tip top!
This I played on the Low (clean) input but the Tone knob noise is present in the High input also.

I really like that riff at 2:30. The hiss is very noticeable, but I can’t notice it when you’re playing.
It’s a tough one, if you want it as a pristine clean pedal machine I think I’d lean towards sending it back and looking for a better option.
It’s a bit of a compromise isn’t it, how much do you need it in it’s imperfect form?

In this vid one can hear Tone Knob noise decreasing when he lowers it at 2:20 min. ! This seems like a Laney CUB 10 feature! Maybe its just a British thing @defjef did say that Blackstar insists on noisy amps to give them that Analog feel Not for me though, thanks very much! This one is going back and Im looking for an amp that only has hum when volume and gain knobs are cranked.

Funnily enough I was thinking of going and trying out a Blackstar HT5-R. I wonder if they've retained the hiss feature?
I have read a few reviews of these Cubs with a tone section hiss. I read one guy who extracted the bowels of his amp and laid them all out on a board to try to track it down and failed. Could it be that PCB layouts are leading to this? Hiss-free components not fitting onto them? Maybe hiss is a feature which we must all now embrace as musical. Like Ellie Goulding.

Funnily enough I was thinking of going and trying out a Blackstar HT5-R. I wonder if they've retained the hiss feature? Please do tell us about it once you have tested it! The Blackstar HT1 sickened me to me stomack when I played it that time I picked up my G&L Fallout guitar. Sounds like a box, tiny, muffled, boxy and emmm, boxy and tiny and muffled can't remember if it was hissing though!

Well it could be that the more enclosed back that Blackstar go for, combined with their mids-heavy Marshall heritage and their heavy rock leanings will lead to a similar experience for me. Combine that with an 8" speaker on the HT1 (and a totally closed back) and I'm not surprised you got that feeling.
Even my ID Core has a bad sound like a little drummer banging on a box if I play an mp3 through it. The stereo spread feature on that amp plus some reverb help that amp in the room and it sounds even better if I take it's top off so the sound can get out. Generally speaking I prefer an open back for the sound in the room but, when it comes to recording or on stage, these can be bad things so I'll try to assess it, if I go to assess it, for all of its possible uses.

An amp should not be a constant battle but a source of inspiration. I will never forget that day I played through a Fender Deluxe Reverb. Such a joy, so much clarity and so much bottom end, and so easy to dial in a good tone.
Maybe I should save up and get me some Fender amp!

I think a Fender would really suit you Che, I don’t know if there are budget alternatives, could this be an instance where you have to pay for the name?

Im looking at the Bugera V22 and it seems to run the same tubes as Fender Blues Junior IV. I could easily upgrade the speaker to an A-type Celestion in this case to give it more bottom end and nice rounded clear highs. Maybe nice to have Fender on the amp but its just pricey for my pocket! I've just received the Thomann return label for the Laney CUB 10 and will hand it over to the postman! I have at least a week to ponder what amp to get. Egnater maybe tweakable but it could just be too much in the Marshall ball park! ... Google here I come again!

...and at least 6 tubes in it and a 12" speaker and 22 watts. Totally different construction there. Single tube preamps and power amps can't get that complexity especially as the gain gets a bit of whump. That's why Blackstar's amp uses solid state chips to get a bit of overdrive distortion...and why it sounds like it. Compare it to a similar sized 5w Marshall DSL5C tube amp using a three preamp tubes to get the crunch and you instantly hear the difference. Sure the Blackstar is a lot cheaper but, in the end, the user needs to settle down to some simple equipment that does the business and he can stop buying more stuff to find the tone.

The V22 seems a good option.

I reckon it's a Fender Princeton you need! I know a couple of guys who each own both a Princeton and a Deluxe and they both prefer the Princeton for small venues and recording. They are pricey though.
