VOX AC10 would be a good alternative to Princeton.
@defjef are you sure you want to give that money to Backstar? I mean their 1 watt head cost more than the black Bugera G5 watt head and has MUCH more to offer! Even the G20 watt head is only 10 euros more than that 1 watter from Blackstar.
I guess one goes after what one trust in. My trust in Bugera is rock solid. Had V5 and have V55 and have played the V22 in a shop. All very good amps for the money. Excelent actually, when you look at what you get (FX loop, bright and normal inputs, 2 channels, 3 band EQ, Reverb, Stadby, extension cab, solid speaker and fab looks, silent on low levels needed for recording and practice).

I'm not going for new, Che. I'm looking at a combo HT5R for £79. I have my doubts for all the reasons mentioned but I'm interested in a more Marshally spec and wanted to check it out. Its less than 12 miles away and I'll take my guitars with me. So the only person who will get my money is a Mr D Jones. Hiss, muffle or anything else deplorable will put it out of the equation even at that price.

I’d be interested to compare a Lionheart 20 combo to a Princeton. Although one is British sound, the other American.

VOX AC10 sounds like tiny crap compared to Princeton

Full circle salteedog. I was reading an interview with Jason Falkner who said he gets so desperate for money that he sometimes has to tour with people like Ryan Adams! I wouldn't expect a VOX AC10 to sound at all like a Princeton.

I imagine Adams can be a complete ass. Although Neal Casal - another great musician in his own right (he's the other guitarist in the video above) - survived being in his band for a few years. He plays in Chris Robinson's band now but he has about 8 solo albums under his own belt.

He was on that Songwriter's Circle programme. Apparently there was a bit of fallout between him and Neil Finn and Janis Ian. Whenever I've seen him I've tended to get the creeps.

That programme sounds interesting - I must give it a look. I like a fair bit of Adam's music - seen him live a couple times over the years, and there's no doubt that he can write songs as readily as he can make sandwiches, but I always feel he has the character of a perpetually stroppy teenager, is sometimes unpleasantly arrogant and is too happy to tread water instead of pushing forward his music being way too much in hock to his influences perhaps.

When I really got into the New Wave of Costello and Joe Jackson, I came across Graham Parker's name. He seemed really average in comparison yet he does get namechecked by others. I get the same feeling from Ryan Adams. Loads of people mention him but I never get any kind of engagement with him at all. He feels like a cookie cutter musician. Maybe that element of never pushing himself that you mention is what I'm picking up on. Always unlikely to be surprised or delighted. The sort or artist that would be used in a film to represent 'the band' in a bar. I like to be pushed a bit and if he can't even be bothered to push himself...

I have read a few reviews of these Cubs with a tone section hiss. You wrote "these Cubs" so its the same on the CUB 12 as well or? Do you remember if that dude opened up a cub 12 or 10? Im asking as that amp has a Bass/Mid/Treble EQ as well as that Tone knob. I could certainly lower that Tone all the way to 0 or 1 to avoid that hiss and then crank the Treble to compensate, unless the Treble is also hissy

As far as I remember, Che, it was with 10s. I do read that the 12 seems to have a bit of a 'better' sound than the 12R, presumably because the reverb uses one of the preamp tubes.

I really love the Bugera V series amps and this V22 with its EL84's would be a nice companion to my V55 with 6L6's but they will still be very similar. Im not entirelly sure about the Bugera G20 ... can't find any good vids on it. I fear it could be well made for heavy style high gain playing and the clens maybe mediocre ... hm ... would be nice to have something else tone wise but still a box that respects the good cleans. Hm, ... hm ... or maybe just forget about getting another amp and get what my studio really needs now ... hm, ...

Still no money back for the CUB 10 nor did I get any updates on it from Thomann so I decided to wrote them an email today saying that I have done my part and shown them the postal recepit as proof that I have shipped it to them. Is it my responsability that post has lost it or else? Why am I waiting for my money as I have done all I could?!
They ansewered like this; Sorry. We have placed a full refund on your customer account and you need no more to think about it but we have not received that amp.
So now its theor problem and I have got my money back!
