Yeah, I’m working over in the other office at my voluntary job and I noticed it still hadn’t been pat tested so I got the guys to check it out.
Works perfectly! Sound is pretty good from my little practice earlier.

The clean channel is nice, has proper spring reverb. Takes pedals well. Tempted to try selling the Laney again!

I wouldn't sell the laney MartinB you would probably regret it later.

it's definitely a possibility, it's just so big, heavy and loud. But then it has "That beautiful tube sound" people always bang on about, and thinking back I'm sure after I went from my Blues Jr. to the Katana that's what I missed.
One for me to mull over.

I'm sure it IS what you missed MartinB. Maybe the Laney is just too big to get the best out of it in the environment you are wanting to play it in and you just need to downsize a bit but stay with tubes. If you're liking that clean that Fender do so well and which also takes pedals nicely then that is the area to look. Failing that attenuate the Laney?

It sounds like I should look into attenuation for the Laney.

That's a really good call @defjef. An attenuator could be the answer MartinB, how much would you loose selling the laney? I've seen a JHS pedal sized attenuator for around £45 not sure how good it is?

I've seen those JHS Black Boxes too blindwilly3fingers but, since they go in the effects loop, I'm not sure if they aren't just another version of a master volume or even similar to a volume pedal. Does the Laney have a master volume? I guess they could be used in conjunction with a master volume too, though I'm not sure what that does. I suppose it would allow you to max out your preamp, take the volume down after it, and then max out your master volume too? Is that a good thing, a bad thing or a pointless thing? I have no idea! Could you just use any volume pedal in the loop? They're only around £45 new and I'll bet they can be had second hand for half that from people who tried and didn't like them. Worth a punt?
