Cheers Djangle I'll take a punt on the AS pedal. I'm not being funny DefJef but Fender, Marshall and Vox amps have different sounds/voices to me. I may be wrong!

I don't think anything turns an amp into something it isn't but the three knob eq section is very handy. Is there any reason why the AC Tone won't do Fenderish (whatever that actually is) using the three knobs Djangle ? Not enough mids scooping for Blackface? Not enough mids for Tweed? Vox, Marshall and Fender have their own sound/voice if you will so the Bandit(sold) and Kustom amps I have used fall somewhere in between predominantly Fender/Marshall for clean and gain tones. With The AC tone pedal I was able to EQ the clean settings I like to use on those amps and dial in the toppy/spiky/sparkly chime you get from an AC30. Hope that makes sense.

I agree with you DefJef on you can't make it sound like something it's not. All I wanted to know is will the AS purely as a stomp box do a reasonable Fender imitation. Into an amp that isn't a Fender then yes it gets you into the ball park Fender sound.

But what does the AC Tone NOT have that means it can't do Fendery (as I said before 'whatever that is')? Where does it fall short? It is in the sweep of the EQ knobs or something else?

DefJef .....you're confusing me here .....The pedals in question are each voiced to sound like a particular type of amp be it Fender(American Sound), Marshall (British Sound) or AC30 (AC Tone) now going straight to a PA or DI each pedal is 'voiced" to sound like that particular brand of amp. Using it into a combo amp of a generic brand like Bugera or Kustom etc the pedal will add some of the more "authentic" tone /flavour you wish to achieve. Yes I could probably dial in Fendery tone on the AC but if I wanted Fendery tone I would have bought the AS. As I already mentioned the Kustom amp's own voice is predominately voiced on a Marshall but the shift button on the amp can change it to a Fendery tone which scoops the mids. The clean setting on the Kustom amp on its own sounds nothing like the clean tone on a genuine Vox AC30 but when I use the JoyoAC tone pedal I can pretty much get the AC tone/flavour I'm looking for in my head.

I think the fact that it's being recommended as a DI means the opposite blindwilly3fingers. That's why I use it. I don't need an amp when I use it live other than the general PA's one which is FFFR, but can still get the sort of tones I enjoy. It REPLACES the amp. Actually using it INTO an amp means you have to be a bit more careful with your clashing EQ sections. When I use any pedal I set my amp tone knob to as close to neutral as possible (to my ears). The pedals EQ I use to shape or adjust tone, as I said the amp just has a tone knob. If this is the wrong way to use it I'm open to learning the correct way. 🤔

That's why I like the three knobs on the AS pedal's EQ. You can sculpt the general character from there instead and leave your blank canvas amp's tone controls alone. I am now wondering why a seven band EQ pedal wouldn't be better instead?

I was confused (easy I know) wgen you said about it being used as DI, means the opposite. Cheers for the help.

I suppose what I'm trying to get at here is what does that term 'voiced' mean? In what way will my American Sound never get to an AC30 or your AC Tone never get to a Fender? Are we just talking about the sweep of the EQ knobs? As we know an AC30 is supposed to be fairly flat with no mids hump or scoop. A Marshall should be mids humped and a Fender mids scooped - or that's the general state of affairs. Can there be other things inside these pedals apart from their EQ stages that are different and adding to that voicing? The gain section? Of course the AS pedal also has a knob called 'voice' that can sweep from the midsier tweed to the mids scooped Blackface. If I have it swept to the tweed end then why is that not also more Marshally? And if it's in between then why is that not more AC30ish? If someone on here owns all three of these pedals then maybe we can get some light shone upon what's going on inside. All I know is the AC pedal gets more of the sound I was after in my head.

Or even just two of them side by side would be interesting Djangle. Rather than people using them to sound like the amp they are said to emulate I'd love to hear how bad they are at getting the tones of the amps that they are NOT aimed at doing...and why! I'd love to know whether the AC Tone would be the best by sitting right in the middle of scooped and the humped mids equation. I'm guessing that it's all in where the middle of the EQ knobs' sweep is on all of these. And then there's that amp simming too of course!
