Hey guys finally received my Joyo JF-12 Voodoo Octave Fuzz from AliExpress in the parcel post this morning. Whilst dispatch was fast, delivery was uncharacteristically slow if not unexpected given the impact of COVID exacerbated by Christmas.
Anyway, it's here. Opened a short while ago, tested options and experimented with it a little. Haven't opened the inside to see if the circuit board capacitors orientation has been revised since the initial issue all those years ago. In any case, first impression. I'm thoroughly delighted beyond well pleased. Tested using an 8k PAF bridge humbucker. My first fuzz, it exceeds the modest expectation I had of it. "Satisfaction" riff sounds genuine enough to my ears, and mucking around with some other stuff, it pleased the Fuzz Gumby in me. Awesome value was just icing on the cake. Two thumbs up from me. Pretty sure I'll get use from this one.

Nice one @manxcat 👍 that's good that you like it, there are hours of fun to be had with fuzz. 😜. My favourite is spirit in the sky, I can get close to the tone but alas that juddering stuttering bit is still elusive. 😕
Enjoy your Voodoo Octave, may the fuzz be with you. 🤘

Thanks blindwilly3fingers . Just mucking about playing around with "Sunshine Of Your Love" and "Teenage Kicks" with it yesterday. Now I know that technically neither used fuzz per se, but to lay audience ear listening, IMV they'd think they both sounded great with different settings of fuzz and octave I tried applied. Only issue with fuzz with with TK was the short bridge and solo brightness and volume. Need to turn it off and engage booster with a second guitar laying down the riff in behind it or it sounds thin and insufficiently bright. I suspect its going to be workable substitute for the torn speaker of " You Really Got Me" and to replicate early distortion of " All Day And All Of The Night". I have Vintage and Modern Distortion pedals, so this makes a solid companion. A good start in any case. Sure is a fun pedal to experiment with. 👍

Tongue in cheek ...of course you 'need' it. Soul food for spirit and mind.
But seriously, my view in my case was it's worth the price if only just for the convenience and option at the prices we can buy available from AliExpress, and I didn't have any fuzz pedal. The popular Byang was a serious also ran contender in my own triage.

For sure. Ever since I was first aware of the principle, implementation of KISS in anything is preferable where possible. Blackstar's lemon Insider software case in point. Architect has just been released. Let's hope it lives up to the hype Insider didn't.
I'm in the fortunate formative phase of my guitar journey where for me it's 'like the 1960s'. I'm reached the point I can be let loose at dawn with the only expectations stay out of trouble and come back when the street lights come on, and everything in between is a new guitar adventure day filled with fun and discovery.
I'm unusually comfortable with tech for most people of my age, and so conversant with and truly love my modelling amps very much appreciative of their configurability and what they can do which is utterly gobsmacking, especially the Blackstar ID Series TVP. But the simplicity of pedals in front of my Blackstar Artist valve amp or solid state clean channel of my Fender Champion very much works for me too.
All three of those combos have effects loops too for optional deployment of those other pedal effects preferred between pre-amp power-amp stages. Every day is still experimentation and learning for me. Kind of like discovering a love for and building Airfix all over again, but with the affordability and plethora of their extended range, technical accuracy and detail and options available today. Materially and technically, we guitarists have never had it so good, the imposition of COVID on pro performers notwithstanding. Apols for the tome. Went of topic there. First morning coffee gee'd me up a little. 0700hrs here.

@manxcat nice that you got your pedal, the last few things I've ordered from AliExpress have taken ages too. BTW your JF-12 is apparently a clone of the Fulltone Ultimate Octave, which are stupidly expensive
I can help if you need a hand in ordering the right parts etc. Fuzz pedals are relatively simple to and cheap to build unless you're looking for something with funky Soviet era Russian germanium diodes. Alternatively, Ryan at 60 cycle hum is a fuzz pedal fan and has reviewed a stack of very cheap fuzz pedals over the years: www.youtube.com/results?search_query=60+cycle+hum+fuzz
