Hey Blasblas, have you every used one of those SD pickups before?
I ask because the bass I gig with has the same shape and same placement, but it's a no-name brand that came with the bass. It sounds good, actually but I've always wondered what it would sound like if I swapped out the p'up.
Please let me know your opinion and, if possible, sound clip pleeeeeease!

For almost all the basses I've got with MM style pickups I use SD's, I like the sound and in my opinion they come real close to the real ones, I prefer the Alnico over the Ceramic ones for their smoother and more detailed sound, the ceramic ones are more 'in your face' and have a rougher edge.
I have also tried Bartolini's (which I like, though they don't sound like a MM), EMG's (which I don't like), Wilkinson's (came with my Vintage MM style bass, which I found rather bland but was by no means sounding bad, and a cheap Chinese one that came with my OLP (sounded crap). I still want to try a Delano but given that these are in the same price range as the SD's I always end up going for the SD because I know what I get with these.
I always wire them with a series/parallel switch, and when I use a single coil as neck pickup a series/single/parallel switch.

Filled. Leveled. And filled again. Now the tuners are on straight and aligned.

Not wasting time isn't what I'm aiming for, this kind of simple doodling is so much fun to do. Little effort, big result! Between taking out the first screw to mounting the last one again it took me no more than an hour (not counting the time for the glue to cure).

Made the new pickguard today, looks ugly due to the protective foil that's still on.

Nice Blablas!
In the center of the pickguard, is that some kine of shape on purpose that you made, or is it the plastic that makes it look as though there is a "straight" part?

There is a unfinished edge there, this is roughly the location where the pickup will come, this edge will be gone after I've routed the pickup cavity. I don't want to put any serious effort in things that are going to be modified at a later time.

Very clean work. The battery looks so "factory" placed. This time, when have finish that beauty we want sound samples Blablas Maybe, if I feel up to the daunting task of making a recording. It's easier for me to make a complete bass from scratch than make a simple recording. Looking good blablas!! Would you be willing to send me some detailed dimensions of the pickup? and cost? I may want to try one out in my bass. I used the dimensions from this Delano data sheet. I always make the cavity 0.5 millimeter bigger on all sides (so 1 millimeter in total), for this pickup specifically I made the cavity 16 millimeters deep. For the price check Thomann, that's where I ordered all the parts for this conversion. To both of you: thanks for the compliments.
