DefJef Did you see that Ian Dury movie that was on BBC last night? - I only caught the end of it but Andy Serkis was the spit of him. I agree that clean tones are much more dominant in music than one may think (especially given guitar amp marketing blurbs) . Even the heavier genres use a lot less gain than one would assume. In any case I'm following your tube amp journeys with interest. Someday I will go there too but for now I'm still in SS and Modelling territory. In fact yesterday I could not resist buying an old (early 90s) Fender Stage 112se for little money. It needs a little work on the reverb tank but is otherwise very nice. Of course at more than 100 Watts through a 12inch speaker it's wayyyyy too loud for my needs - I'm not expecting to play gigs anytime soon. Not sure why I bought it actually...just couldn't resist. (Note to self - stop browsing the classified ads sites). I expect I'll move it on after a while. As a free bonus the seller also threw in a little Behringer 15w practice amp too (Firebird GX108) - it's not half bad for what it is. EDIT: Just saw your other thread with dodger about Ian Dury so never mind that.

Hi salteedog. Those Fenders Stages are really nice. I had to use somebody else's on stage last month and it sounded great. papache, it's worth bearing in mind that what sounds great on its own may not in the mix and vice versa. Having given up on gain and drive through my Fender's tubes I was just playing along with Chas Jankel and his Blockheads to Reason's To Be Cheerful (that solo at the end, always loved that). I was able to up the reverb to far past where I would normally put it when playing alone and then I kicked in a cheap and cheerful distortion pedal from the eighties, set to topless fuzz and it sounded great in the mix. Have you got any atmospheric stuff that you could play along to, or even one of our Bentonite tunes that you know quite well. You may be surprised when you are supported by other instruments at how much more flexible your amp is than you have imagined. Good luck with it.

I was eyeing a cheap Fender stage in Denmark. Sill checking that page for new amps! It's a serious illness, with pills , doctors and all! We should be recording music instead of browsing for more gear damn it! Will try and play along the Bentonite tunes once I get my studio space back. All me studio is basically packed in bags and boxes.

Gotta say I'm loving the Fender Stage 120se. I managed to fix the reverb tank myself - couple of broken wires there - and with reverb the clean tones are, in a word, glorious. Especially with my ST-20 and TE-20 (fitted with 2nd hand Fender Alnico V neck pickup). Humbuckers are a tad lack-luster - not bad by any means but just not as glorious. And the drive channel can rock -albeit only with a conservative level of gain. The thing is bloody loud too - theres a monster in the cab pushing to get out - so much so that the best way to approach it is with guitar volume dialed back to 5. Which means I now need to fit a treble-bleed circuit to my ST-20 and TE-20. Luckily I already have the components - I put off that mod in the past because I never was really convinced of the value, but with this amp now I see the need.

I'm sure neck humbucker via Germanium Fuzz would sound awesome into such a clean amp. Tone rolled down that is. I'm glad you're happy with your new box! Did you show us a photo of it?

Yes yes but you can't see the settings on my Nux Drive Core (with booster engaged) lol it's the green box on top of the amp.
The settings you see here are too quiet. The amp needs more volume if Gain is at bellow 2 and here is where my Drive Core shines. It has an OD, Level and Booster to bring things up in volume and still keep things in the clean zone with fine breakup.

That Bugera looks biggera than I was expecting. Indeed. I too was surprised to see how big it is for an 8" speaker amp. It's also very heavy I find. But love this box a lot. Really do. There is something intimate about it. Hard to explain with words.

Had a chance to play through the Mooer Reecho Twin pedal and it sounds awesome on its own into the Bugera V5. It actually does not color the sound at all! This pedal and the Nux Drive Core are the ones sounding great on their own. I will test all pedals on their own when I have time and make sure they sound good on their own before I look into why my chain sounded strange. Maybe I will need a Buffer pedal for the chain.

Yes its a versatile pedal. I like those small top knobs with high/low cut and dry/wet adjustment. I will get this new Mooer Reverie Reverb which has some modulation too. I mean this Reecho also has a Chorus to blend with the delay and it sounds very good.
Aliexpress seems cheapest.
NOTE; the only annoying thing are the led lights which are way too strong! I duct taped mine.
