Way to go defjef! I sandpapered and polished the sharp heads of the screws so I can actually live with them now. The big issue though which I forgot to mention is the toggle switch. When unpacking the guitar I noticed that the lever itself was detached from the switch casing. I've contacted Thomann. I'm assuming they'll send me a replacement.

Lever detached from switch casing? What actually broken off inside? Hope it's not a soldering job. The lever is supposed to be attached to the switch with a small pin. The lever being the highest point of the guitar probably means that the whole weight of the guitar has been on it at some point. Here's a pic of it. I could simply replace the pin but I'm curious of how Thomann's service handles it. Getting a completely new switch would of course require some minor soldering.

Yes. An easy fix if you can solder. Might be worth replacing it with a sturdier switchcraft type anyway. One with a nicer washer: Link

One with a nicer washer: LinkI really don't understand why they don't use the old school toggle switches considering they're that cheap in China. The same with the pots. The mini pots screams low budget. Regular sized pots wouldn't probably cost much more. For not many more cents you'd make the guitar feel more high end.

Just to add another area to look at I've found a small split under a fret which could be the start of the board de laminating. I've emailed Thomann twice since but not had a reply yet.

Just had a look at the TE-90FLT in the Thomann showroom and the mounting screws were as bad as with all the other guitar pictures I have seen.
Good that the sound is loved by the players which is the only thing that counts.

I ordered a TE-90FLT in vintage white today, it will be interesting to see if replacement screws have been fitted by German QC as promised. Although I'm not sure if my guitar will be from the initial factory run. They now show as out of stock, expected back in March/17... Having been thoroughly underwhelmed by a Fender MIM Cabronita at my local store, I look forward to my quick fix of Thomann lookalike goodness . My TE-70 continues to impress me 2 years after purchase.

This is one of the guitars I also was hoping to order by now, but expense and what not I have to wait 3 or 4 months. So hopefully those kinks are worked out by then. Looking forward to what you say Dave when yours comes in.

So, my TE-90FLT arrived. With the same crappy screws everyone is complaining about. So much for German QC. Guess I'll email Thomann for replacements.
On the guitar itself, the good:
* At 6.75lb (a shade over 3kg) it's much lighter than my TE-70. * Body is a single piece of nice looking ash. Guess I got lucky here, most people received two-piece bodies. * The Roswell pickups sound great, somewhere between the TE-70 single coils and the filtertrons of my Gretsch 5422. Nice & jangly. * The satin finish neck is nice to play. A shade less chunky than the TE-70.
The bad:
* Pickup cavities are very roughly cut. (I thought guitar bodies were fully routed by CNC, apparently not) * The pickup screws! * Setup was terrible. Intonation & string height were unplayable. The neck was bowed back slightly causing major buzzing. Nothing that can't be fixed easily, but there's no way this guitar be played out of the box.
Fortunately, I bought this model as a cheap modding project. I'll be fitting an ashtray bridge + B50 Bigsby, refinishing the headstock and fully setting up the guitar (including a fret dress). I should be able to tidy up the pickup cavities as well!

Pity this guitar has so many issues. They must have a few different factories for building all the different models they sell. Some are awesome others

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

daveb this is very disappointing since Lasse promised there would be an improvement by mid December. See my original post about this back in October. I'd be onto him if I were you: "Another little update from Lasse at Thomann: We have not received shipment of new improved yet, it’s on water arriving mid December Replacement screws are in stock, let me know if we should ship you some ? Thank you for your support. -- Best regards Lasse Thernøe"
