Yeah I turned the vol, master and wattage knobs but it made no difference to the signal, plus I want the tone that I've already set without altering it all to get a loud enough signal. Back to microphones interfaces and DAWs for monitoring, I think.
Asio4All I can't face after spending over a week and several emails trying to get that to work on my son's Roland midi controller into Cubase. When we finally got it to work (after a visit to a local studio) we had no idea how we'd achieved it so could never easily replicate it again!
There's a lot to be said for an engineer. I can't create any music when faced with this stuff. After several hours of annoyance I am in no mood to record, have a nascent headache, and have forgotten what it was I was going to record anyway.

You'll have the most fun just pulling that little inch high prop out from under the bottom. We can have a competition between us over how many times we have to fish that out again because we needed to plug something in to the back of the amp and it squashed flat again. Another reason to add the doughnut and leave the ****er flat.

You know whats the saddest of all? ... Before buying this Kat50 I was over at Music Store .de and placed the FAME Sweet Baby into the basket but needed to buy something esle to get a free shipping so I added a TC Ditto looper but that one was out of stock, so I added the Ditto Stereo looper and even that one was out of stock which made me grumpy so I went back to Thomann and ended up buying th Katana50 and instead of the Looper got the BDI 21 for me shorty! The point is! If Music Store had TC Ditto in stock I would be now waiting to receive the FAME Sweet Baby amp! Instead Im now waiting to get Katana

Well I don't get the usb interface. I tried monitoring through the Kat and used the Tone studio to get a mix, but the levels stay low no matter how much I turn up the amp. In the end I maxed the Brown channel and the volumes and recorded a hideous sound. Later I forgot I'd turned them up, unplugged the headphones and nearly blew my windows out with feedback.
I really can't get a nice sound via the usb anyway. It seems hideously sharp and totally lacking in any feel. I assume that I'm doing something wrong but I can't be doing with it any more.
I'm moving to line out next, to see if that sounds and feels better. My recording sounded bad but playing along to it through the Kat was great fun and sounded really fine.
Looks like I may still be buying one of those digital recorders just to grab ideas.

Are you saying the levels did not change at all?...so amp volume on 1 give the same level in the DAW as amp volume on 10? That hasn't been my experience. Something must be afoot here.
Or are you saying it does change but it's still too low?

It does change but stays low. Monitoring on headphones meant I had to be listening to a very loud output too because I can't see any way of reducing the monitoring level on the Kat. In any case the usb sound is horrible anyway. Rather like listening to an electric guitar straight into a hifi. Really awful. I must be doing something wrong but what? That's the question.
I have no problem with the sound from the speaker but through that usb it's just really worse than my Blackstar. Must be something in the tone studio that needs sorting somewhere.

Hmmm....okay. It's as fiddly as hell alright.
I assume you are running low output pickups. Is the guitar volume at 10 or dialed back a bit?
In any case it does sound like the USB output is not running at 100%...again those mysterious setting options in BTS.
Also - try the various air feel and cabinet options. They definitely make a difference.

As far as I can make out those cabinet options are for line out recording. I fiddled with them and nothing changed on the usb recording. Everything was at full volume, even used a humbucker bridge pickup and the loudest channel (Brown). Too loud in the headphones but really not good (and stereo tracked in the DAW with no option to choose mono, yet I normally choose mono for guitar.
It really doesn't feel as though Boss have recording in mind. Their advice and help is virtually non-existent.

Those cabinet options work on the USB output too.

I had a look at that video and it's interesting that others are having difficulties with low levels. I don't see how you can use the usb if there is no method of turning the monitoring level down on the headphones. Guess you have to go to a mixer first or get phones with a volume control on them. All a bit overkill.
I see that the line out cab sims are indeed no such thing but also relate to usb out. I was using 'Rec' and 'Vintage' so, in that case, something else is making the Kat excruciatingly loud whilst, at the same time, managing to also be quiet and awful.

I just read somebody saying this: "I have noticed an interesting behavior regarding this:
When I record via PC, there are actually TWO available inputs. The Primary (KATANA - 1) input records the signal post FX loop; everything is included.
However, if I select Secondary (KATANA - 2) I actually get the signal as it goes into the Input jack at the Preamp. So this is basically a DI signal."
How I actually use that information I am not sure but it might have something to do with he awful sound I'm getting. I said it sounded very DI. What I can't understand is why Boss themselves are so tight lipped about how to set this ****er up. It's as though they are trying to protect some rights.

salteedog. Can you find any printed online info about what those v3 upgrades have done and how to use them? I can't seem to find any Boss info at all.

God this Tone Studio is a pain in the arris board. I've just spent about two hours fiddling with it but am none the wiser about what I'm doing. I got a decent clean tone for instance but more through luck than judgement. If I took it along to the studio to record it and we need a bit less bottom I wouldn't know where to look. In the reverb? In the gain? In the parametric eq? In the global eq? I can't get on with it at all. And those split function knobs don't help either. It drives me to tears.
It's incredibly powerful and is packed with fantastic tones but I just can't seem to drive them. Thy come and go. I can write them to somewhere but have no idea how to call them up again. Sometimes I don't seem to have the option to turn an effect on. I think the software may terrific, like that Amplitube stuff, but there's a controls issue either in the visual layout or on the box itself. I'd just like to get 4 good global tones: clean, clean with a bit of dig-in break up, crunch and a lead tone, and then do all the rest of the fx business manually or with pedals. I can't imagine using this thing live till I can get some basic control over it.
And didn't someone here say they like the Matchless amp sim? Where the heck's THAT? Is it one of those sneaky amps that you can't store anyway? Or do you download a sneaky amp which is just a certain load of Tone Studio settings and then save them? I'm baffled. Seems like I need an Openreach engineer to set it all up and then tell me where the channels are!!

And as for that USB recording level, it is a very unfortunate thing and totally unusable. Why is it so bad?
