I just realised, I mustn't listen to gear samples on these in ear phones at work! Everything sounds a bit fizzy. I'll stick these on through my hifi at home later.

Thanks saltee! I was thinking to get it for its nice clean tone and then add an American Truetone infront and even my own trusted NUX Drive Core for extra sweet driveness. Im guessing it works very well with pedals infront of it! If necessary I can also throw my Digitech RP225 infront of it to shape the Bassman tone which is my tone with a Strat! How long does it take for a speaker to break in? Can one not crank the Bass knob full on to break it in faster When I look at my budget Katana 100 is certainly the best option for all applications from recording to rehearsing/gigging. Im still waiting for Thomann to give me back the money for the TE-90FLT ... still have time to ponder some more about this amp

I read on a forum that it has a '59 Bassman sort of sound available. Mind you there's a heck of a lot of contradictory stuff written, not least whether it is 'modelling' or not .

Lots of marketing spin at play. The facts are it is a modelling amp. There are Digital Signal Processors at work here. Thes DSP chips are better than the old ones used in the older COSM stuff Also the power amp is different to other modelers though and that's probably where some of the secret sauce is.
Re. the Bassman ....There are 'sneaky amps' that are amps left on the chispset firmware that are not optimized for the power amp. Some of these like the Clean Twin and the Matchless sound very good to my ears (I prefer Fender Clean to Roland JC Clean) but honestly the sheer amount of EQ options on these amps (control panel EQ, plus slots for Paratmetric EQ effects plus, individual channel eq plus master amp eq (in the software) mean you could probably get any tone you want out of them if you tweak it long enough.
It worth saying again though that they take pedals very well - and in that respects seem better than the other modelling amps onthe market. I've been playing the guitar channel of my Trio through the American Sound into the Clean channel of the Katana and it is just lovely. That pedal adds an extra level of responsiveness that I personally like - e.g on my TE-52 I can run the neck pickup clean and switch to my bridge pickup to add much more grit without touching anything else. I'm a big fan of a decent output difference between neck and bridge.

Again though - health warning is the software install (which you dont need if you just want to run the amp with the effects that are factory installed) might break your spirit if you are adverse to computer troubleshooting etc. A good few people have had trouble with it - in fairness a lot of those are folks who dont bother reading instructions. I myself found it a doddle but I work with software every day so my expectations are set appropriately. You need to read the installation instructions carefully.

Oh saltee, if only we could have you write all the software we poor victims have to use. I'm glad you understand how frustratingly awful it tends to be. I'm sure it doesn't have to be that way. With somebody like you helming it there would be a chance that we might grow to love it. Meanwhile, here's me still trying to populate a half-built website with some images. The whole process makes me feel sick . Oh, and that American Sound pedal is a great thing isn't it .

You are too kind. Although I'm not a software developer I do have a lot of experience designing software based business processes. Generally the rules is 'what can go wrong, will go wrong'. And never expect users to read the instructions or indeed to be awake for training. When those users are sales people then you can take it as a certainty that their minds will be elsewhere.
Regarding website building. I'm having fun at the moment building my first ever Wordpress site. To use a metaphor - today it's easier than ever to build a nice shiny castle in the woods but the dragons waiting to attack it are much scarier and more powerful than they used to be.

That's where I am saltee. My second Wordpress site but this time full of data. I keep nodding off! Hopefully, if I don't snore, the dragons will pass me by. Trouble is there might be a handsome prince lurking about...and I don't trust him.

I recognise him from another review he did where he managed to make something else sound bad.
I’m very prejudiced. I only watch a few different people’s reviews.

The 50 and 100 sound very bad in this lads reviews! Which shows again, how hard it is a) to make decent recording and review video and most importantly b) there‘s no silver bullet in gear that instantly make you sound like MK, DG or GM. You need to invest time and energy both in your playing AND getting to know your gear inside out (tone/vol knops and amp settings) My GAS is cured for now, heavily reducing my gear to a few guitars and my preferred amp (Laney IRT Studio - awesome, awesome amp) and focusing on getting great tones out of just guitar&. Pedals will come later again.

I actually enjoy his reviews. He leans more towards the indie & spiky punk sounds that I prefer. The web is awash with folks who see Eddie Van Halen or SRV as the pinnacle of great tone so he brings some balance to the Force.
Plus, most importantly he is articulate and measured in his assessments.

Managed to listen on the home stereo system. It's odd that there is a lot of room noise when he is speaking which disappears when he plays. That would suggest that the sounds from the amps are DI recorded, yet he says they are miked. So I must presume the noise is either from some other equipment elsewhere in the room or his voice mic is generating hiss or he has had to roll off a lot of top from his amp mic/s to lose the hiss. I'm willing to believe his vocal mic is generating it. We had an Aston mic in the studio with a very unacceptable base level of hiss. I didn't think that this video displayed much to be liked. I thought his spikier sounds could have come out of any solid state amp set for dirt so that was a little unfair and his jazz sound was as muddy as I expected. My stereo didn't like it at all. Grr...humbuckers.

Man hear this lad ! Some awesome cleans! Perfect to throw infront of it a nice OD! Ooh, I like that riff at 1:47. Quick, nick it! I preferred this out of the three vids so far. His first tone was a little brittle but he seemed to quickly notice that too and adjusted. Sounded good thereafter. Especially the tone at 3:32. Nice.

So what say you @defjef ? To get this one??? HELP!!! I kind of dropped the idea and am looking at a Fender Blues Junior III and then maybe add in another speaker (Cannabis Rex) but that will mean saving money for another 2-3 months since those sold on Danish 2nd hand market cost more or same as in the shops!!! (dont ever move to Scandinavia folks, stay in Temple Bar, its the safest place on Earth)
I could order it and then return it if I dont like it but that means I will have to get it from Thomann since I ONLY trust their customer service (so far! Im still waiting for them to refund the TE-90FLT)
