Problem with cheap China pickups is you buy one then try and it sucks then you buy another one and its still not to your liking ... they are cheap but not cheap if you have to buy lots of them. That money could be saved for some well tested pups like Toneriders or even these Bare Knuckle seem well regarded. Actually from now on I will not go cheap route when it comes to pickups! They mean SO MUCH Im tellin ya! For example the TE Ironstone make my Bugera sound bad. If I only had those pups I could say that the amp sucks! But not true! With Ironstone Silvers my Bugera sounds awesome no matter where the EQ is! So if your amp sounds bad GET NEW BETTER PICKUPS!

The difference between cheap chinese pickups, Donlis in this case, and well known more expensive pickups is often very little regarding performance. Many companies are selling rebranded pickups made in China but they don't tell you this. Example, you can buy prewound coils, slugs, screws, covers and plates etc from China and declare that they are made wherever your location is when really all you did is assemble them.

I for one really dig the possibility of being able to do business with a Chinese person directly. There are lemons for sure, just pick your fruit carefully. These are great times.

Oh no, sorry I was just reading about World Politics and how Trump is investing 900 Billion dollars into Military, China 100 billion and Russia 75 billion, and then I read your comment "these are great times" Sure they are great times but future will pay for it ... not sure what to tell my little 2 year old boy about this world we are living in. Various species are still very rapidly disappearing because of our life style, humans starving and yet we have so much money to invest into D i c k driven macho politics. My wife thinks we should smile at the world and the world will smile back at us hm ... sorry nothing to do with Donlis pickups I guess or maybe it does

It has all ways puzzled me how they think we believe the crap they talk. One thing for sure the dollar is the real religion. At least we have guitars to make a noise with and make us forget the real world. Do get your point about your 2 yr old che. If only Warpigs lyrics would come true and the hand of God struck the hour! But not being religious I can't see it happening!

This TE-70BP was 150 euro + Ironstone TE harness set was 110 Euro + the new bridge (not sure how much it was) ... not sure I wish to invest more into it! We are already talking about 270 Euro! Thats a lot of money! Problem with ordering pickups is you cant return them once they have been soldered/used. Lets say I get a TE neck pup for around 50-60 Eur and it doesn't sound good How much in total would that be? We are talking lots of money here! Maybe I should just sell this guitar and say good bye to my Tele journey once and for all.

Sorry @chedapapa - I'm not obsessed with tone - I'm obsessed with playing (although I do like my guitars to sound good)

I am playing it every day since I've got it. Played it with the original Roswells then with the Ironstone TE harness set pickups, then took out the treble bleed from the harness ... played more, still no magic, disconnected the 50's wiring sounded better but still not sounding right. If I add Bass on the amp sounds too muddy, if more treble too sharp, if more mids too boomy, if less of those then it sounds lifeless. These Te Roswell and TE Itronstone make my amp sound c r a p. As soon I plug the ST62 with Ironstone Silvers the amp sounds great and all the EQ positions become usable. There is either something in the make of those ST pups thats so musical or in the Roadhouse 7 way G&L harness I have in it! Still think it must be the pups. Im not complaining to you folks but rather sharing my journey which in this case is bitter and sour We cant expect people only reporting what sounds great I do have the option of buying the Seymour Duncan Lipstick Tube pup for the neck position or the low gain Bare Knuckle. Tele bridge is easier to control but the TE neck pups usually have that muddy character unless you find the one thats more clear.

Actually if you maybe remember when I bought that Peavey Bandit amp and I couldn't make it sound good no matter what I did with EQ. That was when I had china alnico in my strat and the G&L Fallout tribute. Well, the guy I sold it to came with his own guitar with Seymour Duncan pups in it and the amp sounded real nice, crispy and clear.
Im brainstorming here, in hope to find what is the most important part of a good basic tone. So far everything points towards pickups to be the backbone of it!

Why not just stick a P90 in the neck Che?

The neck is routed for a single coil. Means I will have to dig into the wood and get my hands dirty Also wonder how the P90 will act with a 250K tone and volume?Btw, guess whats in my eBay basket for a while now: Tonerider P90 Alnico II, Wilkinson P90 Alnico, TE pickguard for a P90. I dont feel like using the P90 in humbucker format. Read mixed reviews.
