If you remember I put a Warman Soapy Joe in the TE20, works fine. I sold a Fender Modern Player and kept the TE on the merits of that pickup. Still my second most played guitar.

So you kept the 250K pots in the TE20? Is that Soapy Joe low output? I cant find P90's lower than 7K mostly up to 8K. Is that the lowest one can get for P90s?

I left all electrics as they were mate, it says the output is 7.8 but that doesn’t mean anything to me. I like the tone and it seems balanced with the standard TE bridge pickup. More info here which will mean more to you than me. www.warmanguitars.co.uk/product/soapy-joe-s-p90/

Thanks for the link mate but it sais Ceramic pickup. Not sure its good for me as Ceramics can be very much in your face unlike the vintage Alnico. Will look into the Tonerider or Wilkinson Alnico instead. Irongear has a P90 in humbucker format that is 6,3Kohm and is Alnico II ... hm maybe I should try a humbucker format instead ...
Seems like most folks out there prefer 500K for the neck P90. Will have to ponder

I am of the same opinion regarding puckups. I changed the P90s in my HB SC450 GT to nice chinese ones with braided shield wires and it was an improvement. They cost around 30€ per pair. But I replaced the SD Vintage P90 (costs 90€ single) with my Vineham Bluesdog I was totally blown away. I would try the ironstone silvers in the strat I have as this is a vrry budget Peavey strat. But for the guitars I play most I will only get custom wound pickups from Craig. I also have a pair of Humbuckers and they are crazy good. www.vineham.comHe will wind the pickups to your liking. That's a big plus compared to searching cheap, mass-produced Pickups that Sound good.

I dont want to pay custom fees Otherwise sounds as a very customer orientated fella

The inexhaustible quest for the cosmic pick up! There was this time when it was enough for me to just get a guitar without buzzing frets and I was happy. Then with more time passing my ear got more sensitive and I found that Modeling Pedals can give you a better tone (amp simulations and stuff). Then more time has passed and I found out that P90's sound awesome. More time again has gone to pass and I found out the magic of Tube Amps! Then more time passed and my ear got hypersensitive nitpicking the tone. Its inevitable, the hunt for your perfect tone is

I don‘t care about fees which give me a big grin in my face every time I turn on my amp. ymmv Anyway, this is what I found in a german forum and seems to be an awesome collection of wiring schemes for teles: www.musiker-board.de/threads/artikel-telecaster-ueber-200-seiten-mit-130-schaltungen-und-grossem-history-teil.448108/There should be also a large reference/tutorial section but this is only in German. Hope it is somehow useful as I read that someone tried the 67 wiring from those schemas and is now finally happy with his Tele.

Thanks for the link! So many schemes ... how to choose the right one, do I test them all I guess I could try the '67 and see if that makes a difference. Problem is I have a 5 way switch not 3 as in that scheme.

Played the TE70 more today. I found a setting that suits this guitar. If I roll off both Treble and Bass to Zero on the amp and Mids keep on 5 (which is flat I guess since its in the middle)I can get a very much inspiring tone on the Neck-Bridge in Series. Still not getting any enjoyable tones on other switch positions.
Very snappy tone and very present, also a bit rigid. Its a strong tone, not smooth as my ST. When I engage the OD I must roll off the tone (which is treble) and have to roll off the Drive a lot otherwise it goes into crazy overdrive since these pups have power.
Its a one trick pony. This makes me still think of maybe getting something else for the neck. Not sure if Im to go for the P90 or Tube Lipstick. I think Lipstick would suit me better on this axe. I would rather buy another guitar with both neck and bridge P90's.
But this guitar is soooooo much sustaining its crazy! My Strat is no where near it! And these overtones that come about are awesome! Must be something to do with the brass saddles and the top loader even. Just assuming here. Its such a great guitar and I would be a fool to sell it. Will have to find a way to make it more versatile.
