Couldn't decide between a V22 combo or the head version, but I've had the head in my basket for a while. Weirdly the value of sterling has become stronger against the euro over the past two weeks and it finally dipped below £200. I was about to press the trigger when...what's this?...a B stock one? I ordered it for £182 and it's on its way now. This will be very interesting. I plan to run it through my Fender Champ 25SE's 12" speaker to start with so I can make a fair comparison between those two amps. I might then check it on the Katana's speaker and even the Tokai Champ clone's 8" speaker. Might even try two speakers. I think I've made the right choice to go for the head only. If it all goes wrong I have 14 days to whizz it back to Thomann.

Oh yes, that Sweet Baby. That'll be interesting for it's minimalistic approach. I was looking at the Sub Zeros because they had a few more features but I was worried about RAT amps views on them for sheer safety.

Looks and sounds like a very versatile amplifier. Good price too. Hope you will be happy with it.

I was looking at the Sub Zeros because they had a few more features but I was worried about RAT amps views on them for sheer safety. Yeah, I've read some stories about some screws and stuff being too close to the transformer or other hi-voltage wires also not sure I could live with that BLUE color The biggest selling point for this Sweet Baby was it being silent for this kind of circuit which should be rather noisy. Can't work with noisy amps. Next is, it might very much have a good sound out of the box, just the way I remember Fender Deluxe Reverb sounded good at any EQ position. Very easy to work with such amps as anythign you add will just sound better (or in case of a buffered BOSS pedal, worse).

Make sure to use only Earthed wall sockets for this amp as otherwise you will/might experience hissing.

Hopefully all my wall sockets are earthed.

All UK domestic power supply oulets are earthed. Its been a legal requirement for donkey's years. Although I'm not saying they all are as if I do someone will post a pic of a pre 1960's outlet still in use somewhere.
Out of interest what what made you go for the Bugera @defjef I thought you were more than happy with the champ se?

It is possible for the house earth to fail without the house owner knowing, and, whilst it is possible to test it, I'm extraordinarily cowardly where electricity is concerned. I had grown tired of trying to get various pedals to give me playing dynamics and breakup blindwilly3fingers . Even worse has been pedals that were designed to give me proper major overdrive. Solid state amps like the Katana or my Tokai can't do it adequately despite various circuits designed to do so. The Champ SE is a hybrid but with the valves, unusually, at the power section. This means that the amp has to be maxed out for those valves to break up and, since they are 6L6s and I live in a semi detached house, doing that is not an option. There IS an overdrive channel but that is, of course, attempting to break up the solid state preamp. I have tried to trick the amp by placing the supposedly valve powered Blackstar HT-Dual overdrive directly into the effects return of the Champ, thereby bypassing the preamp (and, unfortunately, also the reverb tank) but it was just plain nasty, not dynamic and not nice sounding at all. The reason for this being, I suspect, that this pedal is also a hybrid with the drive and distortion coming from solid state circuitry. Now I'm willing to prove or disprove any of this stuff using a full valve, similarly powered, amp to match the Champ. The V22 has two EL84s, three 12AX7 preamp tubes and a number of power settings that should prove very versatile in getting me a number of sounds. It also has a very similar spec and eq layout to a Peavey Classic 30 which I am used to using in my mate's studio, but it adds even more useful features. If it never does beautiful cleans like my Champ can (and the Peavey can't) then I can still use my Champ for those and I'll use either Katana as a cabinet or else buy or make a cab for the Bugera. If the Bugera does everything well then I will have an excellent, foot switchable rhythm and lead channel amp for live work. If the Bugera does nothing exceptional I can return it within 14 days and stop worrying about the whole enterprise.

Most modern consumer units are the earth leakage circuit breaker type. You would be extremely unlucky for the earth protection circuit to fail. But I won't swear it can't fail as you suggest.
I get what you mean regarding the overdrive I find most just noise. The overdrive pedals I use I set as low as possible and use a clean boost pedal to drive/get break up on the clean channel. I have not really liked any of the OD channels on the amps I have or have had. I suspect that is possibly because they have been hybrid or solid state. It seems to me most amp/pedal od's are designed for metal type sounds. The v22 does look a nice piece of kit, as you say hopefully you can find a suitable cab/speaker.

JefDef do note that some speakers have loose/flabby low end and some very tight. This will give you 2 very different breakup tones! My V55 has that first Golden Bugera speaker which is I believe based on Jensen, and as such does give a more loose bottom end when OD-ed. I call it chunky. Im sure a Celestion would give it a more softer edge when ODed. etc ... etc ... etc ...

My Champ speaker is very worn in. It's had 25 years to become whatever it's become.

£182 is a very good price for this amp. Hopefully it's b stock status is because its just a return, and there are no cosmetic flaws. It is a classy looking amp.

It is a good price. I nearly pulled the trigger on an second hand ebay one that ended up going for over £130 but I wanted the warranty and the return facility. I think I'll be happy. I also like the balance of a head in one hand and a cab in the other when going up stairs at a venue!
