Ok, in that case they have a poor customer service if they are ignoring emails from customers. Lets see if I get a reply. I have sent an email today about the issue with return policy from the US and about the alnico/ceramic issue on Tele guitars. JAC didn't you say that you might have the contact to Lasse in Denmark (the brain behind the HB instruments) or is it Talk Bass who has it? Would be good if we could send him an email and ask about the pups

I don't think this is a case for contacting anyone outside Thomann, as I believe it is the sole responsability of Thomann to advertise their products correctly. I agree that they should make sure their advertising is correct, but I can also say from experience that sometimes the simplest of tasks can take a long time in a large company, especially in Germany, where they probably have one person responsible for each description on the web Also, I find with many websites, that they will update it in one language but not another.

Ask Thomann about this.
See what they say.

Uh oh. Are you saying the pickups in the SC Custom are NOT alnico? Crap. I have one on it's way to me. The pickups are one BIG reason why I chose this guitar.

Those are the same pickups as on my L-450Plus and they are very warm sounding vintage pickups, I highly doubt they are ceramic which do sound much sharper. The only one Im not sure if its alnico or ceramic is the SC-550 Paradise because the pickups are very hot to my ear but as I said before its a perfect candidate for some Slash style solos very articulate, sounds amazing but I love the L-450Plus pups better for finger style and chords because it sounds fat and buttery Also the Mustang copy from HB has ceramic pups from Wilkinson but to my ear they just sound awesome go to the site and have a listen. I think we should communicate with Thomann before spreading panic around the WWW

As I said previously, I did communicate, sending messages, and posting on my usual forum, where a Thomann guy is used to answer from time to time.
I'm just expecting an answer
I must add that I don't have that much problem if these pups are ceramic. The important thing is that there must be no doubt when you buy, and overall, no lie.

"I think we should communicate with Thomann before spreading panic around the WWW"Definitely. In some instances, I wouldn't mind receiving ceramic pickups with a guitar. Basically, I just want to get what I'm told I'm getting.

Really looking forward to hearing the resolution of this issue.
I work in internet/mail order and know the importance of getting your product descriptions right, especially on house brands/products. There's absolutely no excuse for dicking things like this up.

With humbuckers it is quite difficult to tell whether they are ceramic or alnico. You can only tell by the colour/material of the baseplate: The alnico version is nickel plated with a wilkinson logo etched into the baseplate (silver colour), the ceramic version brass and as far, as I know, no logo. But they don't say alnico in the specs and don't show a picture of the baseplate, so it's probably ceramic. For some people, especially friends of the higher gain sounds, the ceramics are probably the better choice anyway... So keep cool and enjoy your guitars...

I will pull the ST-90SA apart if I get stuck with it and let you guys know. It was advertised as alnico and I have a set of true alnicos from wilkinson to compare in another guitar I own.
They sound just like the alnicos I have already just not as hot(the ones I bought are hottest winding for strat so that's expected) by ear. So it may only be some that are effected.

Can you take some pictures of the pickups from the underside please, when you open it up. The alnico have visible pole peaces and the ceramic have the magnet block (you probably know this already)

Mine are nickel back with Wilkinson logo .... but I maintain, because everywhere the magnet is mentionned, ceramic appears, not alnico

I popped the hood and found that the L-450Plus pup has a brass baseplate without any logo and the SC-550 Paradise pup has a nickel plate with the Wilkinson logo and a sticker stating WHHBA. On Thomann they state that the SC-550 Paradise comes with Wilkinson WVHBZSL alnico, which is false. In truth they are WHHB same as on the trans blue HB tele On Thomann they say the L-450Plus comes with Wilkinson MWCHB alnico vintage-style humbucker pickups, which also seems false. In truth they are cermaic. The SC550 Paradise The L-450Plus I will be sending some more emails to Thomann
