Im thinking of buying another HB guitar, a guitar for more cleanish style playing with single coils. I dont like harsh single coils so for me vintage style SC are perfect and these 2 x Wilkinson WVSC Live vintage style singlecoil pickups sound amazing on the Thomann page. I cant find any you tube videos on this guitar. The only reference are the very positive comments on the page. One comment sais that some work is necessary on this guitar and this is the only thing putting me off because i dont know how to fix things and paying extra is out of question. But I like this guitar, elegant shape for elegant and sensitive playing style. Guitar shapes and pickups can effect my playing a lot. Humbuckers are inspiring me towards heavy riffing for example. This guitar also has a Jazzmaster trem bridge which apparently can cause buzzing but that can be remedied by placing something under the strings. Any more info on this guitar would be greatly appreciated! LINK MS-60 Vintage

I've been considering this too, but, as you say, there's not much independent opinion to be found. Recently I've got a 450gt-P90 and a 450plus lemon drop, and, taking the prices into account I'm more than pleased to say the least. None of my 7 electrics are single coils, but I've owned 4 different Strataclones and Teletype and felt no love for any of them. I still think every serious, (or non-serious) guitarist should have a single coil in their armoury, and at least this one is a little away from the norm. I hope someone can jump in with a little personal experience, if not, I may pull the trigger later this week and find out for myself.

Whats great with Thomann is that we all have 30 days money back so I will likely order this one and if I dont like it I simply send it back on their expense. They never ask any question for the first 30 days, they just take it back.

Hi there... saw your post. I made a short video about the hb mustang and some easy and cheap mods that made it look even more cool. Let me know on yt if you have any questions.

Nice mod! How are the pickups? Do they sound fat or are they more or less still sharp single coil sounding (which I dislike). I guess this can be remedied through pedals and amps but nice to know.

Hi .. I'm a new member on here but I thought I'd stick my 6 penn'orth in. I studied lutherie at MANCAT for 3 years so I sort of know what I'm doing : ) I've got 4 Harley Benton instruments and am pleased with all of them. The only one I've been disappointed with, and sent back was a resonator tenor Uke that was just so quiet it was unusable. Played nice though! I wanted to try a shorter scale instrument and I'm afraid that I can't even buy the wood to make a Mustang clone for what the H-B costs so I bought one. Like ALL instruments in the sub £300 bracket it needs a set up. However it arrived with a reasonable attempt, and was much better than any sub £150 guitar I've ever played. I did a little tweak on the truss rod and played with the intonation and action. I'm going to check the frets for level and change out the electrics but it's so playable as it is that I'm going to wait till it needs a string change to mess with it. I hate the bridge .. It works but is a clone of a tune-o-matic and is not right for this guitar so I've ordered a chinese copy of a Mustang bridge (only £7) I also got a Mustang control plate (£6) and am going to re shape the existing scratchplate to take it. I'm also replacing the machine heads with a set of Wilkinson ez-locks. Nothing wrong with the ones fitted except they're not ideal for a guitar equipped with a trem, if you are not going to use the trem, or you are going to lock it out, then leave them they are fine. Right .... Pickups. I have a feeling that they are ceramic pickups but I can't check till I get the strings and pickguard off. However they are great ... good output, nice tone, quite bright so they are staying. If it comes apart and I find they are ceramics, Ill let you know. I want to custom wire and was a bit disappointed that the slider switches are only 2 way (original mustang, 3 way) So ... I will spend less than £40 to replace the wiring, caps, pots, switches, control plate, tuners and bridge. Having said that If I wasn't so anally retentive then all it needs is a bit of a set up and it's a storming little guitar. I'm going to mod up my TE-80 NT next and am attempting to source some suitable sheet material for the scratchplates.

I hope someone can jump in with a little personal experience, if not, I may pull the trigger later this week and find out for myself. John I got a B-stock one of these and could not find any reason why it had been B stocked. It was totally clean and unplayed looking, then I noticed that the top E string was gently rubbing on the tremolo arm. At first I couldn't understand this but then realised that the trem system had been fitted SLIGHTLY unstraight so that, where the arm usually passes between the E and B strings, it was now slightly deflecting the direction of the E string. This was quickly sorted with a fill and redrill and anyway, I like to take any new guitar apart to get to know it. I have now shielded it with aluminium tape and fitted a proper Mustang control plate on because I like the way it looks. I have found replacement three way switches on ebay that actually fit and will eventually get round to doing the phase switching that the original Mustang had. I've reviewed it on Thomann's website and have reproduced that review here: "It has most of the features of a Mustang but dispenses with the less than popular Mustang style bridge and tremolo and replaces them with, what to me anyway, is an improved Jaguar tremolo/Tune-o-matic bridge combo.
The sound is bright and chimey, the Wilkinson pickups giving the scratchy brittleness of a tele bridge pickup combined with a very unique sound at the neck with an undertone of chiminess coming from the vibrato and a bit of compression too.
The strings supplied are very light for a short scale guitar and a change might thicken these sounds a little but I like them at the moment even if they are a bit floppy and I can bend several tones without worry.
One word of warning: the switches are 2-way rather than the 3-ways of a Mustang so you don't get the out of phase option. Replacements that will fit are available for a couple of pounds from ebay. Whilst you're on 'the bay' you might want to buy a Mustang control plate too. I bought one and cut down the original scratchplate to fit it. Some redrilling was necessary but the end result is definitely worth it if you like the Mustang look. Just be aware that there is a full rout beneath the scratchplate so you won't want any gaps where the two join - cinch them up tight together. And also make sure you will be drilling into wood and not air!
The neck is nice, though a slightly banana tinged yellow, and of course the headstock is not like an original but you'd have to be a berk to buy a Squier one for well over the price of this guitar. Just revel in your price-conscious rebelliousness.
Finally the body colour, I would say, is more of a mint white bordering on TV yellow rather than the Vintage white advertised (which I always think of as creamy). I like it though and it goes well with the mother of pearl scratchplate."

Thanks for that fine review man! Im glad you are happy with your HBs ! I bought a HB jazz bass as Deko for 42 euros which was discribed as "not for playing, decoration only". I yet to find what is wrong with it since it looks as new to me and plays lovely Some B-stock have small issues others bigger and yet there are those without any issues. Its a bit like playing Lotto

Its a bit like playing Lotto Sorry about the regular appearance of the name 'thomann' throughout my last post. It seems that, because I copied and pasted my own Thomann review to here, there was a bit of software code that enabled Thomann to mutter "thomann" every paragraph, like some presidential aide helping George Bush through his speeches. I thought I'd caught and evicted them all but it seems a few stayed put like the last party guests at 4 in the morning. I've edited them all out now! I know Thomann go through phases of deko offers and I've always missed them but I'm pretty confident that, as long as the truss rod hasn't been mangled, I'm up to repairing the majority of issues. 42 euros for a Jazz Bass must give you a warm feeling of cash-in-your-pocket joy every time you pick it up. Is there a pic of it somewhere on this forum?

Ordered one of these today - review to follow. I am super happy with my G&L Tribute Fallout but I couldn't resist this @ the price and with the shorter scale.
