While there try out the sneaky amps. (Download the liveset ..add the amp you want - (I recommend the Clean Twin) - to a preset in tonestudio, adjust tone and volume with the knobs on the amp and press the Ch1 or CH2 preset button to save the settings to the slot you want. www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=20630.0These are 'unofficial' amp models...basically carryovers from the GT100 - so if your preset includes one then do not change the amp model dial or it will revert back to the regular clean, or crunch, lead etc.

Try the trick I use on my Digitech RP225 and see if that helps lower the Comp's Noise! I set the Level to almost Zero (it might be Zero/off) and the other 2 parameters as I wish. This way I get no noise from the compressor and yet still get nice roundness for my Bassman '59 amp sim!

Im not sure you can do my trick on a normal stomp box as level to zero would be no sound at all. I was thinking about trying it on Katanas Compressor from the library and see if that works well.
I will report about my new CKK Gears how it sounds noise-wise and else. If it is one of THE best Compressors Brett Kingman ever played (and that dude sure had lots of gear coming through his hands) then this IS a very affordable comp based on apparently the best of all time comp called Ross.

To be honest I have no idea what I am doing with all this editing and have no idea what I have now done by saving them to Channel 1 and Channel 2 (there seem to be A's and B's of these too!). If I understand you correctly the Katana will not save sneaky amps? Or they will? And can I choose a different amp for each setting e.g. Clean Twin for the clean sound and Vox Lead for the crunch sound and then save them there for eternity? I am aware that after 20 minutes that I mostly have a headache and a deep frown splitting my eyebrows so I'd like to do all this stuff once and never again.

The Katana will save Sneaky Amps. A and B are the banks - so you have preset CH1 and CH2..that's bank A...and if you hold the panel button down so that it is flashing then you have Bank B CH1 and CH2. Save your sneaky amps to those presets (I dont think you can save sneaky amps to the panel).
But lets say you have your preset CH1:-
Clean Twin + Comp + Reverb for example
Now - If you move the actual amp knob on the Katana to the 'Clean amp' setting you will revert back to
Regular Clean* + Comp + Reverb.
To get back to the Clean Twin you need to press the CH1 button again.
*Note the regular clean is modeled after a Roland Jazz Chorus..

Just to clarify (or perhaps further confuse ). Get the idea out of your head that you can change the amp-models attached to the knob. You cant. What you can change is the amp models that are stored to the CH1 A, CH2 A, CH1 B and CH2 B presets.

I tried it. You're right, level does change the volume so MIN is just silence. I looked at doing this stuff within the Katana too and the same problem persisted. I can't seem to get anything that takes out the attack. I can get MORE attack but unity seems to be just the natural attack of the amp. In other words unity isn't at 12 o'clock it is at 7 o'clock. No use. So maybe I will go back to my original solution of a VERY short slow gear effect. The tiniest of volume swells on each note. It might work.

Thanks for that saltee. So each channel and each bank can only have one amp type each. In effect I am setting up 4 amp types of my choosing plus have the preset ones at my disposal on the panel. Presumably if I am in CH1A all other parameters on the actual physical amp ARE tweakable, just not the AMP TYPE knob? I think you get it but I just want to make sure you are not confused about the 'banks'. When the Katana 50 was first released there was only space for two user defined channels* (CH1 and CH2). Then they figured out how to give us two more in Version 2 of the firmware. That introduced a way of storing two sets under each CH button. So they called the original Bank A and the new ones Bank B. You get to bank B by holding down the panel button un til the CH 1 or 2 button is flashing. * I would prefer to use the term 'presets' but I'll avoid it as you want to use that term to describe the built in amp models attached to the amp selection knob. And yes - in CH1A you can adjust gain, vol, EQ and also the selection of effects (red, green, yellow) for drive, mod, delay, fx and reverb. If you are going to use a onboard compressor you can add it to the red/green/yellow slots in either or both of mod and fx.
