After researching and researching I think I have found the most affordable "real deal" compressor! The Gears by CKK Electronics. I have bought their CKK Lunar Drive and am extremely happy with it. Such sweet OD with 3 clipping styles and all 3 are very much usable! Will write a review .. tonight even ... look for that thread.
I have respect for Brett Kingman as the guy seems down to earth, no bull stuff. If he states that this one is a fantastic compressor Im sure it is. I bought the Lunar Drive thanks to his review and I did not regret it (as a matter of fact Im now selling my American Sound as Lunar Drive is way WAAAY better sounding).
I think I will buy this compressor tonight from Gear4Music as they have shipped my Lunar very fast (got it after 3 days).

Im looking at a good compressor mostly for my Tele as it can sound too spikey on high strings and too bassy on low strings. This Gears box might just be what it needs to have a sweet sweet sweet guitar (love that Tele now, its the only guitar I play at the moment)

So many compressors seem to be more sustainers. Hope this one sounds good. If you didn't please do hear/observe Bratt Kingman's reaction to this Comp and that lad knows stuff gear related! Im confident!

I still don’t quite understand compression, I like my TC Electronic Forcefield but don’t have it switched on most of the time. Completely unlike my EHX silencer.

A nice compressor (not sustainer) can help bring the guitar's Lows and Highs more into balance so to avoid getting high strings sounding spikey and Low strings sounding too bassy/muddy. Compressor will even add smoothness to the tone. This way you send a nice smooth tone into your other pedals.
Also if you for example hit the higher strings stronger than your lower strings the compressor will even them out a bit So I guess its aslo a bit like a Limiter.

Im confident! Actually, listening to the video I preferred his uncompressed tone more. Mind you with YouTube's own LoFi compression and an amp sim thrown in and them some warm fuzzy headphones on my ears goodness knows what I'm hearing. Sounds nice though.

Tone chase is a very subjective stuff. Maybe its your Fender amp making it sound enhanced? I think I do know what you mean; when I use N+B in series I too feel its enhanced but that is far from smooth compression Im after. You see, I have to strum e, b and g closer to the neck and D, A and E closer to the bridge to get them sound balanced. I would rather prefer to stay in approx same position and have the compressor even that out for me. All in all a VERY good Tele I have now! Everything else is just extra cherries on top of a very tasty cake! You have heard that tone on the Damascus bridge yups! Thats the Tele right there! My Strat can not get that nice clear punchy-ness.

I see from your comment here that your "enhanced" means fine full clean tone with slight breakup. I have that tone. Now I need more smoothness and balance between high and low strings to be happy (er). We are after two different tones which is good for our collab anyway as it would be scary boring if we were to have a same guitar tone

... also, Bratt is not using Amp Sim! He is using a real Fenderish amp! (clone) check 1:24min (Vibrolux clone)

(clone) check 1:24min (Vibrolux clone) Ah, I misunderstood him when he said 'Fender amp replica' I thought he meant 'sim' and was just showing a photo of the amp he was replicating. My mistake. That compression that I feel my tele has and any enhancement of it is not to do with any breakup. It's more like a phasey thing, as though tones within the guitar play with each others' phase and this is felt even more in the neck and bridge together setting. As though I can strum it as hard as I like and it will not get unpleasant, like the output has some kind of limiter on it. It's weird but very handy. So Damascus was bridge pickup? Presumably with the tone rolled down?
