Hm, you make me think now ... If there is not much difference between Tonerider and Roswell TE style pups then there is no reason for me swapping them! I can tell though that The ST Roswells and Ironstone Silvers are WORLDS APART! This is why I was thinking to get the Ironstone Vintage TE pups to get a more clear tone.

Probably worth spending time with them first to adjust them to your preference before investing in a replacement set.

I'd agree with salteedog, I probably would've been happy to keep the Roswell's if I played around with their heights etc until I got the sound I was after. Although part of my reason for getting the guitar was to get experience modding things.. I was surprised of the build quality of the Roswell's too, they definitely don't feel like a cheap pup. Your curiosity will probably make you change them out, and nothing wrong with that at all, it's one of the great things about having guitars! If you do make sure to put up a thread about it

Probably worth spending time with them first to adjust them to your preference before investing in a replacement set. have been setting them up all day long but still they are not capturing the magic for me. Something in their EQ is missing! The nice shimmering top end and a non-mushy low end I think its missing. Not so when I plug the Ironstones into the same amp/pedal setting. Then I tried to fiddle with EQ to suit this TE but to no avail. They sure aren't bad but i need my pups to be more than just OK. The 10' gauge strings are flying into the bin and will be replaced big time with 9's. I have bought into the hype of "thicker gauge sounds fatter, ..." for a while but for me the 9's sound even fatter than the 10's because the 9's are not as rigid as the 10's on a long scale and with 9's I crank the Bass on the amp without it going all muddy. Also my finger vibrato is hindered by the 10's! Also interesting to see that TE players like Jim Campilongo use EXL120 ( 9's ) and he too seems to crank his amp Bass knob to the max without it going muddy.

Tele bridge pickups are designed to bring out the 'twang' - I would expect it to be a bit more abrasive than the sweet tone you can get from a low output strat pup. Twang mightn't be to your taste though.

Maybe you right, maybe twang is not for me or maybe muddy pups are not for me only time will tell Will know once I get the Ironstone pups ... thinking to get the Ironstone Tele Set with pups and the 5 way TE harness actually! This is the only lad that made a vid with that set; Ironstone TE harness + pups. I like what I hear. Its the clarity of lows and highs that I need. Dont mind the twang at all.

Did you change the strings before doing sound comparison? And these saddles are brass, aren't they? If so, replacing them with steel ones will give you more high frequencies, however, the difference might not be audible Still, there is one thing to remember:

This one does sound pretty bright, but it's on the bridge pickup, isn't it?

I dont change strings until 100% sure Im not sending the guitar back to Thomann. The guitar is totally fine in all aspects but pup tone and plastic nut so Im keeping this one and will change strings tonight ... might even try and change the nut to bone while at it ...

I took that plastic nut out just to realize after it broke readily into 4 pieces that it's made of bone (hide). Well well, it took me some time to shape the new nut but still need to file the high e and b slots. Not sure what tool to use? I strang the guitar with 9's and finger vibrato is much easier now and so is chording! (Is this a word).
In all this job I forgot to open up the PG to look at the inside. Next time maybe!
The tone of these pups is too much into your face so to speak! Almost feels like ceramic pups! I know the neck is alnico because I had a peak the other day.
Not sure I like the tone of these Roswells! Must try something else before I conclude that Tele is not for me.

This tele certainly has Audio tapper pots because it acts instantly. My Roadhouse ST Harness has a linear tapper and only starts reacting when I come down to about 3.
UPDATE, HUGE UPDATE! Ney!!! MOST ANNOYING UPDATE OF ALL TIMES!!!
This Tele almost went thoruhg the window tonight!!! How come not even one of you Tele fans warned me that Teles cant intonate string gauge 9 ?! No wonder Leo went away from this annoying bridge and even with G&L he used separate saddles! To be able to intonate 9's I have to move the saddles ack but there are those 4 protruding bridge screws that stand in the way!!! I tried to place the saddles on top of the screws just to get a right intonation but string action is rocket high now! No issues with the high e and b only issues with G, D, A and E (only) ! This guitar must have 10' strings to be able to intonate properly! Damn this plank of wood! It really sounds good with the 9's but how do I remedy this issue? Must I buy another kind of Tele bridge now? ... damn it! Such a waste of new D'addario 9's !!!
