I agree that descriptions shoudl be correct. I suspect their new ERP system has hindered their ability to correct web descriptions quickly easily whil in the process of phasing out one version of a model with another.
And its better that if in doubt they do not mention the top whatsoever.
Finally apropos of nothing I was in a guitar shop the other day and picked up a Masonite Danelectro DM59M NOS - primarily to see how it felt. Count me impressed. Super light and comfortable and very cool looking too.

About the video and Thomann's specs for guitars:
I've observed my Ibanez As 103 after the watching of the video: it's a semihollow and it seems to have a sort of plastic binding under the flame top. I suppose that this can be a common way to build guitar considering also that the venners could be only 2mm ... I also suppose that the man in the video has sanded his freatboard more than 2mm.
About thomann guitars specs:
I received an HB SC CUSTOM Honey Flame with split/coil that is an important spec for a guitar, but there's nothing about this upgrade in thomann site ... so I think that there is not lie in the specs ... maybe it's only a technical problem in the updating of a mammoth site like Thomann's site.

I love the sound of a clean lipstick pickup through my Fender Champ. You really are hardcore, DefJef

Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

This has happened a few times with spec changes. As they move stock through and introduce new features they usually decide not to mention them until they have cleared old stock, even though they are selling some new stock with the new features. Lasse discussed this on a video with Cory Mura a few months back. It's safer than advertising something that you are not going to get.

A photo flame can greatly benefit a guitar because it eliminates the risk of over-spray on the fake binding. But how can we be sure if we have a TWT. One method could be to suspend the guitar above a candle. If the finish does not melt then you either have a genuine wood veneer of you forgot to light the candle.

We need someone else to start scratching on their own guitar now. Good that I sold mine There has been an observable time lag between product updates and the corresponding amendments on the Thomann site. The SC-Custom Ocean Flame states the presence of a push-pull function on the tone knob (which is for coil split; I wonder why they do not name it, it's a valuable feature) but the Honey Flame does not. It seems the thing cannot always be fully synchronised. It shouldn't call a photo a maple top, though and I doubt this was a late change to the product.

I'm rather confused by what this guitar is. It has the new HB logo (with headstock mod), but the body doesn't look like the (new) SC450 I have. The lower horn is very round in this video. While the video is low quality, I can't see any figure. The gentleman in the video even says it's very faint. If it were a "photo top" why would it have no figure? This is some odd duck model. Current SC-450 LD on the left, Video guitar on the right. Did HB change the body style again? As for the "plastic" material he sanded down to. I had a similar encounter when sanding down a SC400 Gold Top (painted top). There was a thick high-build polyester resin of some sort between the wood and the topcoat. That guitar had no real wood figure, but I could see the body wood faintly through the thick resin. The resin looked similar to what he is showing in the video. Very curious. What am I missing?

I looked at the headstock again. The new HB logo is in tact but the new headstock shape has been surgically added. Is this a new logo applied to an OLD model guitar? I'm just overthinking this.

I'm afraid I don't understand your last point. Are you saying that the logo on an old (Gibson correct shape) HB guitar is going to be harder to remove than than on the new (with new logo) models? Or should it be easier? Sorry I'm lost.

Also - does that look like a short tenon in the guitar? My old L-400 has a long tenon and I assumed all the HBs had long tenons.
