Due to musical differences I've decided I can't work with myself any more.

I've just been offered a Bugera V22 for £160 by a friend of a friend over in Hereford. What's that; about a 100 mile round trip? Worth it or haggle guys? Or turn it down? salteedog ? MartinB ? @chedapapa ? Anyone!!!!!! That seems like a reasonable price so I wouldn't be too inclined to haggle (but then I'm not much of a haggler anyway). More important to confirm it is working properly and there are no problems with it. 100 mile round trip isn't too bad - especially if you can find somewhere else to visit or do along the way and you can spare the time. Yeah that was my thought. Bit of a trip to find out it's got problems but a nice little bargain if it hasn't. Apparently he's got the footswitch for it too so that's a plus...if it works!

MartinB ? @chedapapa ? Anyone!!!!!! I don't know what those miles are but I drove 55km one way to collect my Bugera V55 (110km drive in total). Still in love with my amp. Fantastic in a live situation and 2 volumes make it a perfect bedroom amp too. Miles make it only a bit further away than yours was. Money saved from returning that Behringer Vintage Tube Monster pedal and and further £25 or more to buy any valves and bits 'n' pieces I'd have needed to buy to mod it. Could be a good idea to switch out my Blackstar ID Core for this. The Katana then does a better job than the Blackstar for a light amp to take into the garden. Hmm. I like a haggle though if it can be done in a 'help me out with the petrol' way. After all it saves this guy having to pack or ship it. And those Christmas bills don't pay themselves.

I prefer pedals because real knobs are easier to adjust and fine tune, but for rarely used effects I can live with the virtual versions.

I have found the reason for neck heel and neck pocket not being in tight contact! All 4 screws were too long for the exisitng holes in the wood! After filing them down the neck and body now fit 100% ! The fretboard over lap was sitting on top of the PG so I needed to shave the fretboard wood a bit and even shave the PG to make it fit without much contact. Now the guitar is set up properly! This guitar was not the usual set-up complains folks Any way now its as it should be and I decided to keep it and to mod it properly as I would like this to be a keeper guitar. It certainly has a very nice , almost semi hollow tone to it. Im thinking to treat it that way and get the SD Phat Cat pickups. I will also add an extra Blend pot for the N+B in parallel. The Phat Cats neck pup is reverse wound so will fit well with my Ironstone bridge pickupin th N+M position. The B+M positon will not be used as I dislike that tone. I did put up this guitar for sale last night and took it down as I really like this neck/fretboard and the body is on the light side and very ergonomic! Now that the neck-body connection is fixed 100% this will be a keeper if new pickups make it sing (it sure sounds, resonates and sustains well).

I guess you just need to find some pickups to capture the tone you like. Or as close an approximation as you can find.

Decided against that Bugera in the end. My Fender Champ 25SE was sounding so good today I honestly couldn't justify it. It's easy to steamroller ourselves into a new thing. I'm glad I managed to put the brakes on. I also remembered how little I'd actually paid for that Champ: about 50 quid cash if I remember rightly. And it was only about 8 miles away. And that reminded me that I like my bargains really bargainy. I paid 85€ for my Fender Mustang 1. This doesn't look like too much of a bargain at 68% of its new price but considering I never want anything else, I suppose it was.

I saw that too late, not sure you made a very good decision Jef. Bugera V series are really worthy. Maybe you'll regret it after having an opportunity to try it.
The more than the 25SE ( precursor of X2 and XD ) is not the best amp Fender released, by far.
I have had a Bugera V22 ( not infinium one ) and wouldn't I had the opportunity to swap to an Ampeg GVT15H, I'd sitll have the Bugera.
Beside, I owned a Champ XD that I sold and replaced by a true clone of Champ 5F1 : a Fame JTA05 full tubey ( even the rectifier is a tube ). The Fame is trully far ahead of the Fender Champ XD ... and cheaper. Only 174€
These Fender hybrid Champs are a trap : they sound somewhat like a tubey, they offer diferent voicings ( at leat the XD/X2), but when you play a true tubey beside, you realise that they have no really good voicing : it is flat and and the lack of dynnamics becomes obvious. In fact, a true recent modelling amp like the mustang would be better ... if what counts is having many different sounds in your amp

Yup - I feel the same way about my Katana. It's easy to get a good tone from it and (unlike you) I find it really handy for recording. (Maybe because I use headphones with a looong cable plugged into the kat for monitoring?).
But for cleans it doesn't match my all solid state Fender Stage 112se. (Lovely sounding speaker in a big cabinet and a proper reverb tank have a lot to do with it)
And for gritty crunch - it doesn't match my Vaporizer with the attenuator dialed just right so I don't blow the windows out.
But the Katana is way more versatile than the other two and much easier just to mess around with when couch-bound.
(All three amps are in different rooms of the house so I'm never at a loss!)
