Hold on. Does this NOT have a speaker? Is it for headphones only? Yes. It's a headphone amp.

I bought another 80 amps This is clearly getting out of control Ok, I have 17 in my Fender Mustang and quite a bunch in the VOX Stomplab. I didn't count them… just a sec… 44. Yes, it's impressive. The Stomplab also comes with 18 drive pedals. I don't do pedals. No batteries, no power supply, no buffer to compensate signal alteration, no patch cables, no pedal board, no bag to carry the stuff or store it away… Then the fun fact: I don't even use the Stomplab. I keep circling around through a handful of presets on the Mustang, mostly using a Fender clean, the Champ for some crunch and occasionally some high gain Super-Sonic. I edited all its 24 presets to something usable but I barely ever use them.

I have 80 amplifiers, 92 cabinets, 88 stompbox effects, 24 rack effects, 19 mics and 2 tuners*.
Of this lot, I use about 2 or 3 different amps, usually with presets tweaked to whichever guitar is plugged in at the time.
I can get some quite nice tones, if I turn it up a bit.
*Overkill, I know

I do most of my playing unplugged. I heard Hendrix use to do this in the toilets. I need to try that

My VOX AmPlug2 Bass has arrived and I'm happy with it. As expected, it sounds no different than the Acoustic variant without effect but it comes with an integrated drummer who doesn't drink so I can keep the alcohol to clean my strings. Good investment. The drummer, obviously adjustable in speed and volume, knows 8 rhythmic patterns plus a straight metronome and is fun to play with. I'm making a mess of it, of course, but that's the point. There are 3 gain levels, to adapt to the output level of the instrument plugged in.

I was wondering which of these things might be the most versatile. I found a Donner one with reverb and overdrive that would be nice and possibly good for bass too. How's the Vox with guitar? Does that gain control cause breakup if you want it?

Does that gain control cause breakup if you want it? Dead clean, nothing like a guitar amp. No break-up until it gets into some very unpleasant, spiky overshoot when I crank the level with my Aria TS-600. I also get there with the Schecter Omen, but only at full volume and my other guitars are all clean throughout, even the SC-7 or the R-458. The VOX amPlug are not versatile, on the contrary. They are designed for a particular scope. This is the best comparison demo I found:

No amp at all. I only play with headphones through my Line 6 Pod. (my oldest son has severe non-verbal autism, and he gets upset by loud noises)

I mostly play at home so no big amps here, just cheap solid states: - my main amp is a Boss Katana 50 Mk1, sounds great, dozens of accurate effects and the 0.5 W setting is so useful for bedroom play - a Fender Champion 40, not bad on the cleans, but gets outclassed by the Katana in every field and so it's basically unused - my first amp, an old and semi-working Marshall MG15 or something, which has basically only decorative purpose in my room Lately I've also been using plugins through the Komplete Audio 1 and my PC monitors. I wished to try a good tube one, intrigued by the PRS MT15, but even though it has a 7W switch it would still be too loud for my needs.

I'm interested whether you notice that very beamy directional nature in your Katana lollerblade? I used to find that finding the right place to sit or stand in front of it was very important.

Now that you make me care about it, I kinda realize that the sound beam isn't the broadest. That's not annoying in my bedroom situation, but probably in larger contests it might be more noticeable, although the 50 should be conceived to be mainly a practice amp.
